This is what I did in my blog. To increase traffic you have to promote your blog in all major social media sites. Facebook is a good one. Start promoting your blog to your friends. Post a quality content and share it to other social networks like stumble upon, digg, delicious etc. I hope this will help. I did this strategy and it works on my blog. Traffic depends on the content of your site. 1. It needs to be unique (one of the reason why people would want to come to the site). 2. It needs to be updated regularly (so that there is reason to come back). 3. It needs to satisfy a need (there has to be interest in the topic your are writing on). With the above three then it is a matter or sharing the message - promotion. Many sites like facebook, digg, etc will help you.

hey there my friend, more traffic means more money like you said. But more cool/good/unique is the site gets more traffic. Also if it's very known or popular..I don't recommend you to use exchange traffic that's forced traffic and won't make you any money at all, use your imagination. There's a cheap way for you to earn traffic in your site, join some blog catalog websites. They offer you traffic if you signed up to them. But, if you really wanted to earn tons of traffics you need to spend a bit, like purchasing a reviews for your site, adWords, and many others.
