How many of you have tried to get government grants?

A close frined of mine has a large debtfrom both student loans and car loans. She is trying to get government grants to help pay off these bills. I want to know how one goes about finding a good place that helps get government (or even private) grants? How much shoud a person have to pay for one of these grant writting companies? How long should someone have to wait for the grant money to come in?

Most all those grant websites or companies that promises to help you to apply and get grant money are scams

, you pay them a fee and you gets nothing in return. There and legit place to apply for grants but it is not easy to get approved for a grant. In my opinion using or paying one of those scam sites or companies is a waste of time and your money.
If your friend got a student loan why didn't they apply for the Pell Grant? Now this government grant is real over the years I have gotten several of these grants for schooling in the past.

I am a student at the moment, and I tried to get a grant from the government so that I would be able to study, however it turns out that it is worked out based on how much your parents earn and, because mine earn too much, I was not even considered for one of the grants. I was a little bit annoyed at this because I don't earn the money, my parents do, and they shouldn't be expected to pay for me at the age of 21 when I have been financially independent since I was around 13. The system needs to be reconsidered!
