Using myLot to share my opinions on issues that I think I should be heard

I come from world's largest democracy where my opinion does not matter. Only my vote does. Once in five years, I receive a slip of paper and I am told I need to be at a specific polling booth on so and so date. I land there indicate the party like an uneducated person, and my index finger earns a black ink spot which proves that I exercised my right to vote.
But what does the vote mean to me?
a. You dont have any rights to know about any contract that government gives.
b. You dont have rights to suggest any rate of salary increase of politicians and government employees
c. You dont have rights to decide budget allocation
and many other things.
I come here and vent my feelings. I feel relieved. I dont seek yes this is how it is. I seek yes we need to change it and perhaps this is how it would have been better. A penny for your thoughts on the issues that I raise?
What do you use myLot for?

Hi.
I hope this response can help you feel just that little bit more relieved.
I come from the most politically over-represented nation on earth! If we don't like something some politician is up to, we lean over the back fence & spin a yarn to our local representative, who then passes it on, with a bit more embellishment, to their superior & it eventually gets debated in parliament if enough of us get even a little upset over more or less the same sort of thing! It only took 100,000 of us to email our Prime Minister to halt live exports to Indonesia for months & only resume under tougher conditions. So we've got it pretty good here.
Okay - yes there are still areas we should "fight for our rights" for transperency over, like the very recent pay rise our lovely Prime Minister has just given herself as well as budget allocation - I'd love to be able to tweak that one! Axe all subsidies to the livestock, dairy & egg industries & shift them to fund sustainable, renewable, GW stopping, GMO annihillating, organic plant agriculture / permaculture. It'd save the country in no time & still save trillions a year in the process. If you like, I can get something started down here, but what's the chances of it having any effect on where you are whatsoever?
Your final question... I use MyLot as a voice for those who do not even get a vote, but are brutally murdered after a life of torture, the profits of which only fund more torture & murder. So, in a way, we should be grateful that at least we get a vote.
I hope this response can help you feel just that little bit more relieved.

Hi vegan, yes it is a sad thing that people are brutally murdered and they have no votes. But having votes has not really helped us. You do seem to have a very good grasp about the subjects that concern your country. Periodically, if we could express what we felt about it all, perhaps we might just get lucky that some politician reads it on net and implements it. :) What you have there is a good system. I wonder why people didnt adopt that system.

As far as I have seen there are no rights for the common people in India, the people who has power and money can do almost anything they want. The politicians and government servants are all corrupt and they won't allow anyone to do their work honestly.

Why do I find I agree with you sids? :) Yes, its time we went the reality show way. Each time a proposal came it should be there on the net, with different people giving why they think it is right and why they think it is not. People should get to decide based on that. We should give our opinion like several websites allow us to. And so that uneducated are not left behind, we also have the SMS system. Everybody gets to say yes or no for each proposal whether it is each item of budgetary allocation, or whether it is remuneration of ministers which are hiked indiscriminately. The present system is completely outdated.

get more teeth into the system
My knowledge says that we can only have 32 and I have counted again... and yes, I have those 32 already
Seriously, I think we should change the entire system at one go. Select only the Technical guys - like our Former Prez - Mr. Kalam who are interested to get the work done and are not bothered about the minting of personal money and earning fame via politics.

What I am always confused about is to vote for a particular person or vote for a party. We have always been loyal to a party but these politicians are only loyal to power and money. So they see where they get benefited most and accordingly change parties. I think every single citizen of the country should once decide to boycott elections and only then the Government will wake up.

Our candidate never has a say in the matter. That is for sure. He has to abide by the diktat of the party chief whose sole objective is to ensure the survival of the party and not the country.
I too feel that way - I mean every single citizen of the country needs to boycott elections. Is it possible though?

Oh come on..some of us want to do something but we cant due to other constraints. So we use these organizations as crutches. I am not against nunnery. :) I would love to be a part of any nunnery as long as they allowed me to wear clothes that I wanted and allowed me to sleep when I wanted and allowed me to hum even the most obnoxious numbers if I chose to do so. Subject to these three conditions, nunnery is not objectionable at all to me.

My Internet bill would be around 950 INR that is the same as yours. :) You forgot to mention electricity bills. With power bills in summer, you can count the expenditure to be around 30 to 40 dollars. :)
I donate some monies each year to HelpAge and an orphange. I guess, substantial amount that I earn from here leaves for that.

That is exactly why refused to vote, cause it does not matter to me anyway, only matter to the politicians...
Well, at least you have a place to vent up, to show that you have a different opinion than those people, and to share... Yes, I should use mylot the same way as you are... if only I don't have to work hard for money... I would be happy staying here more to share my thought...

The reason why we vote for the government employee/politicians because we know that they can do all the things that you are mentioning. They are the leader that we assume that can do a job right even if we are not physically present (i.e seeing contract that government gives, salary increase, budget allocation, etc).
WE VOTE for the reason that we knew (if we research wisely for someone we vote) that they can do best with the government works and the thought that they can serve us better.
As for myLot, it helps me to share my feelings and my thoughts to the topic i needed someones inspirations and advice. Hoping vice versa that i can help also with my words.

Honestly, no party or politician ever says at the time of election campaign that he is going to give himself a hefty increase of 30 percent on a monthly salary that can already feed at least a dozen individuals for a whole year. Had he said that, I am sure I would not have voted, and many would not have. And I have not yet spoken about budgetary allocations.
As to myLot, it helps me to vent my feelings and let others see my perspective on such things which affect all of us, irrespective of which country we belong. And I hope somebody comes up with a solution that has been successful or which seems to have no flaws. I also hope that someday what we all write here is read and like Karl Marx had his say, our opinions are valued. Yes, we all share our thoughts, but each of us have given valuable inputs, isn't it?

In party politics there is no scope to choose a right person. The voters are the tools of various parties. Parties play game using the voters. We vote to a party not a person. Citizens have no option to come out from this circle. Largest democracy in what sense-quality or quantity ?

I agree with you. Democracy is not only about voting for people that are placed as candidates by their political parties, but people should have an amount of participation first in their communities and then through direct representatives that they know.
