My friend ask me what breed of dog would be suited to be their guard of their house. I love dogs, but i just notice i know very little of them, but my first suggestion to him was a husky, which i prefer because it looked so nice but i'm not sure if it would serve his cause.
Any ideas on this matter, please share

Hello Davaome,
You certainly don't know much about dogs. You made me laugh with the suggestion you made to your friend. A Husky would never make a good guard dog (if they made a guard dog at all
). Huskies are pack oriented dogs and they happily go whether with humans or other dogs. A Husky would rather leave the house with a burglar instead of chasing or, at least, scaring him.
I think the best guard dog is a German Shepherd, followed by Doberman, Rottweiler, Giant Schnauzer. There are many other breeds that make perfect guard dogs and, if your friend choose correct, he can even get a mutt from the local shelter that would make a good guardian of his house.
The choice is your friend's. He is to decide what does he want from his dog, besides the ability to guard his property.

There is any distinction between guard dog and watch dog....what you prefer ? Watch dog simply watches the home and alert other to the intruder by barking. A guard dog not only watches and alerts but also threaten the intruder to the point of retreat.
For guard dog my recommendation is rottweiler and Fila Brasileiro. These breed are excellent guard dogs.

Maybe for indoor guard dogs, I would have suggest is Collie. Mostly outdoor guard dogs I have known is the german shepherd and any other breed of dogs that have a long pointed ears and good eyesight.. I know what others are thinking, is it the dobberman breed of dog right? Long pointed ears, large eyes, strong limbs and sporty paws just like the greyhounds and long snouts are those characteristics that fit to be guard dogs. That is only thing I have observed to guard dogs.

Good morning, I am quite surprised that you suggested a "collie," as they are known as very timid dogs. The demeanor is basically no agression! They are considered primal family dogs for their gentle disposition! "Border Collies" of the species are used to herd and guard flocks of sheep/cattle! But they are basically gentle souls!

Hahaha, reading your post made me laugh at myself as well. But it's good that their people in mylot that can help me like you
