It was really annoying. After 11:00 P.M. last night, I was about to go to bed, my cell phone is ringing, and it shown 1 - 800 number. I press the "Answer" button to see what is up, a sales lady telling about the great alarm security their company offer recently, with a great rate monthly payment, etc..... blah blah blah. Oh my god, lady, do you know what time it is, and I am too tired to listen to your sales pitch. Please don't call this number again, I suddenly hung it up. A second later, the phone ring again, and caller ID call the same number, this time, I am too tired to deal with her, so I silenced it. Come on, I don't even know how she got my number, and I just don't want those sales person call my cell. It is night time, and please give us some privacy.

You are right. The cell operators sell each of the number for money.
I think this is what happening. What do you think ?

I am sorry to hear that, kingparker. The best option that you can do the next time they call you is request to include your name in "Do Not Call." Ask for a reference number to make it sure that they processed your request. Tell them that you don't want to receive any calls again. Request for the complete name of the sales rep and take note of that. You may also request for a supervisor to ensure that they will include your name in the DO NOT CALL list.

I hate that, too. But since I use my phone for work, too, I usually try to answer all the calls... I don't answer the ones with blocked numbers... If its important enough, they'll leave a message... I did register my cell number with national do not call list... Though it didn't stop all telemarketing calls, it did help...

I also used to have such phone calls on my cell but not at all times. I think they got the number from the cell operators itself. There are some days I got the adds of some company from the operators itself. The cell operators use us to have their own profit. This is a serious problem in every operators. When they are doing so they are really spreading our numbers to the whole world.
Am i right ?
