Hi friends, You have guessed it right! My daughter got an opportunity to represent her school in the 200 Meters race under-17 category. There were about 10 students incluidng her in the recently concluded Inter-School Atheletes Meet held in our city. She did not get any prize or medals but few of her school mates won gold & silver medals. But she is very happy as meeting students from other school, interacting and above all they all enjoyed the event so much. She is very active in other cultural programs of the school and this participation has given her confidence to meet the world and competition out of school.
Would be happy to know about you experiences who have been a part of such inter school sports, quiz or other competitions and in which way it helped you to shape up?
Thanks for sharing and reading! LOL.

Hello Viju,
Oh I am late here again, I just seen this topic of yours. I understand your feelings as a mother. Blessing and congratulations to her
. She got a good opportunity to interact with other students in a different school. Yesterday I have seen the happiness of my son who won the football as there was competition among different sessions. He led the team to win and he told me everybody hugged him, and I seen how excited him, when sharing this to me. It is proud moments for parents when our kids do something great.
Hugs and love to your daughter.

Dear viju
, he is interested in cricket and football. (Now I just came from his school after attending his result. He got certificates for full attendance and hard work.
He is going to the new school from this academic session, here it was only primary section, now he promoted to class VI so he will go to the big school which is situated in another place. We collected his TC, and they have given the date on 28 of this month for submitting the same in big school). He is playing cricket inside home which irritates me very often. If I object, then his answer is, provide me space outside then I won’t play inside.

Congrats sree for your son. Hey, do give him some special trianing so that he can be a great sports person of our future football. I really feel these days the kids are less interested in sports - outdoor as they are more happy with indoor video/net games. Best wishes and

Hi viju!
It is really heartening to know that your daughter performed so well and she represented here school at such a level. Participation is more important than winning. Participation gives you a kind of self confidence and give you an idea how to compete in such competition and where do you actually stand.
After all she is your daughter.

You are right that she needs to make a balance between her studies and sport.

This is quite exciting I would think. Even though she did not place just getting the chance to participate in something like this helps to show her how important her being a part of a Team like this is exciting and gives her a chance to meet others and interact, and probably make some Friends that she will hopefully have for life. Wishing her the best in anything she decides to pursue from here.

She is already in touch with a few. She happened to be a part of this team from her school and we (as parents) do encourage her. I am more concerned about her academic as in India, a lot of career options depends on the marks she scores in her 10th & 12th grd. Many thanks for your wishes and blessings. I wish you a very happy and happenning 2012!

Hi viju...
That is really great. I appreciate her effort on that race. She will absolutely be happy on meeting students from other schools and sharing their happiness. You have done a great job by giving the permission. have seen some parents who wish to confine their children on some certain conditions. Like read read read and read. I was also confined that way, i never blame my parents for that as i am established by their no no no..... But situation has changed and we should treat our children that way.
have a nice time.

HI,
In fact my parents were never against my wishes of participating in sports, dance/music etc and so i do encourage my children for almost every extra curricular activities. But they have a lot of academic pressures like submitting assignments/projects on time for all subjects which don't permit them to spend time of other activities. My husband don't say yes yes for music dance etc but he has no problems as far as anything sports is concerned..
This session she's participated in around 22 such activities including quiz, debates but i'm a bit tensed now as her results is yet to come.....she'll get her results by this weekend and then the next year she'll be in 10th.
Thanks for sharing your story, now the times has really changed and its more tougher than earlier times. Take care.

I am happy to learn this, it is natural for the parents to be proud of kids achievements not only in study, sports etc, even in job, as a grandfather i am so proud of my grand daughter and grandson who topped in the first examination in the engineering college.

That is a very good opportunity for your daughter. Not sure if I can call myself athlete but I too represented my high school in a few chess matches against other schools. I just wished I had more opportunity but the director of the chess department gave more importance to the senior ones instead of building and investing on us, the new ones. I also wished that I took part in many physical competitions in my elementary days but I was not exposed to the right persons and programs. When I have my own kids, I'll make sure that they are given the opportunities that I did not have. Support your daughter. I am sure that it will make her a better person thru sports and with your guidance :)

Hi Queen, Sometimes we don't get the opportunity dear.. but I am glad you are a great player of chess and as long as you enjoy playing, no matter if we win championships or not.
We do support our children but since she's in higher class, she need to concentrate more on academics other than extra curricular, that make us worried about the future. She is 14 & next year she'll be X std. Good reading about you here and thanks for sharing.

Hi viju
That is a really good news. I wished I could be one of the spectators and I would have cheered for your daughter
Never that bad for me, I wish her all the best.
To be honest, I did participate in some events at the school and college. I loved badminton but during our times, it wasnt a common sport... and was not a part of the school or college sports meet. Later, I was a carrom fanatic and played for the college too on one occasion. That is all about my association with sports - officially.
Unofficially, I and my friends were game when it was cricket (for all the year round) and badminton during the winters. We had a big place where we would gather and have our game. Today, I miss the badminton (not the cricket) just because I cannot play it due to my Arthritis.

Thanks Sid for your encouraging response. I too participated in chess and carrom but now they are our indoor favorites during summer vacatons of my chldren. Yes, i do play badminton and cricket with the kids in our colony on the street for a while. oh i also loved the skipping!
In our office too we have carrom and Table tennis but my issue is that everytime i find it occupied that me or my friends in office prefer to walk around for 10-15 minutes...some relaxation from the desk work. Happy sunday and take care.

Thanks friend. Now she is participating in dance (Indian traditionals) and she is busy with its practice session. This is again for the School Annual Functions. But we are more worried as she's missing her studies. Next year she will be in X std. and she would need to be more focussed on academic front as well. There is competition everywhere and of course i don't expect Perfect 10 in all subjects but whatever she's interested should have more scores so she can get the courses as per her wish. Thanks for your encouraging response.
