I will be buying a house in the near future and I have many tanks so I want to build a central filtration system to be able to save energy in having only one filter for multiple tanks. It will take a while for me to set up but I wish to set it up right to be able to conserve energy and be able to breed and raise many fishes. I would like to have suggestions on things that will help me to build it effecienty. I have build three different central filtration systemes so I do have a good idea of how but wish to do it even better.

Water change is an excellent system the same as moving water is always better than stagnate. I would look for proper amounts because the little guys might not like to rapid changes in temperature and water quality. Not sure what your fish are but I know my gold fish are very tolerant but the tropical guppies have different needs. I guess in the wild they find their place. The golds don’t like the light and habitat under a rock ledges I provided. I would like something that would draw water under the gravel if I could do it and have a little water fall to feed it. Good luck on your invention. Oh, have you noticed that on the space station they filter all the water and drink it again. That must be some filter!

Each central filtration system will have the same kind of water flowing through it. The ph, temp and everything else will be the same except in some case where the temp will need to be higher for breeding certain fishes or some other things that needs a higher temp. In those tanks, I will have a heater (or heaters) set to the higher temp that is needed.

It does sound like you have thought this out. I have a lot of trouble, well not really trouble because the fish like it - with algae and it just requires my assistance from time to time. I don't mind. I did get a litter of guppies but due to my neglect they did not live. I think the goldfish ate them but maybe the water was wrong too,
not sure as I did not have a heater, just a light bulb at that time. I am not an expert. I like raising things though and it sounds really interesting what you are doing and how you are planning it out.
What fish are you planning to raise. I had a difficult time in getting guppy females at the pet store. I saw that some carry a higher price than others. There is certainly a lot to learn about them. I see some people are putting interesting things into the tanks now to keep the fish interested and they exercise.

I see nobody replied and think they really don't think you need any help. You have done well already with your fish. You have had fish a long time like me.
I set my system up, so it wouldn't be near any windows or doors to keep the tanks cooler. My climate is warm year round, so tanks getting to hot is my biggest challenge.

I will have it so that the water that is taken out during water changes goes into my garden. There is a sump well with a sump pump where I will put my fish room. I just need to find out where the end of the hose is that goes out doors so that I can use it for gardening. I will insulate the room so as to help keep the cost of hating the room down and I will use fewer heaters in any tanks and those only in the breeding tanks. I also hope to have a large barrel or barrels to preheat water for the water changes and do any changes in the water that needs to be done. I also hope to have sponge filters in each tank to help keep the tanks more biologically clean and keep any babies from being "eaten" by the filters.
