I'm going to church today

It's Christmas Day but somehow it feels like just another ordinary Sunday. The gifts sit wrapped in the tree behind me, kids are quietly playing, Hubby's eating his breakfast, and I'm about to fix myself a cup of tea. Since church is in about an hour and a half we decided to wait to open the gifts this afternoon, after our usual fish dinner (I'm having chili because I dont' liek fish). Then we'll read the Bible then open our gifts one at a time so that all of us can see what each other got. None of that ripping and pandemonium going on LOL! Anyone else going to church this morning?

No, it is just an ordinary Sunday to me, though my husband wanted to go. Due to circumstances out of our control, we also didn't have a tree this year.. But my poor husband said he was depressed because of it. Wow, now that should be a sign that this isn't a good day, if one has to have a tree inside and when they don't they get depressed??? I am glad I am no longer under that bondage..

Wow, I dont' like the tree either. Today's service was disappointing, it was short, didn't put much emphasis on our Lord Jesus, and there was no sermon. :-( Our church wouldn't have even opened its doors if it weren't on a sunday.

Yeah I know, maybe someday...Have you heard of Jim Stanley? There are some things I am wary of with him, but I heard him today about how the miracle of oil is a fable. I asked about it in one of my groups and someone pointed out that one of the blessings are incorrect. "Blessed are You, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has sanctified us with Your commandments, and has commanded us to kindle the lights of Hanukkah." I am like, wow, she is right, that is not commended.. Another eye opener, but I am still waiting on my teacher to reply, see what he says..

I never heard of Stanley. I don't think it's a fable though, even our Lord Yeshua attended the festival of lights. I'd have to find the verse for it, though, but it's in one of the gospels.

Yes, I went to church today. My brother is a pastor and when he had announced that he was having church, one of his congregants asked why he would do that. And he told them, "because it is Sunday, and because it is Christmas.". We had a nice turn out here. I do not live near my brother. We had many visitors and it was a real blessing to see them. We opened gifts before church because hubby wanted me to wear my new necklace he got me.

Oh I remember we do not have gifts to open after attending mass on Christmas day. But it is still nice that you and the whole family had a great bonding together.

Yes, I would imagine it's a good day of bonding with the family because the stress of getting the right gift is gone. That way the family members can easily focus on each other's company.

I was not able to attend mass on the eve of December 24th because of some circumstances that occurred with my boyfriend. So we decided to attend mass this 7PM in our parish church. Still there are many people since we also celebrate mass for the our coming fiesta. Because of that, we are standing the whole hour until the mass ended. It is worth it though!

Here the catholic churches were full, when we went to our own church. I'm happy to see people go to the church and that some churches are still open on Christmas Day. Glad you were able to celebrate mass.

We didn't go because we were traveling to my brother's house. Our church at home did have a service. When I used to belong to the Christian Reformed Church, they used to have a service on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day, no matter what day of the week it was. I used to really like that.

I find that if we focus on the Christianity part of Christmas like go to church that day and give out candy canes to the fellow parishioners it takes the focus off the mad gift-giving and such. Next year our church won't be having it cuz Christmas falls on a Tuesday and so we'll be hunting down another church in the city to attend a service or mass.
