I watched this movie last night to relax by before going to bed.
It gave the portrayal of how things were in the 1800's of China. It was very real in meaning as one point of the movie they showed how they bound their daughters feet to fit in the tiny shoes that would catch them a good husband.
The secret fan was between the two main girls in the movie and when they were not allowed to be able to see each other they wrote to each other on each fold of the fan.
Its a very powerful portrayed movie however you have to read most of the words they are saying. I did not know this when I rented the movie, but none the less I learned a lot about the culture and how things were believed to be back then.
If you don't mind reading the words its a very worthwhile movie to watch.
Kind of like reading a book and getting to see it on tv where if you were actually reading the book you would have pictures in your mind while reading.
Has anyone else seen the movie?

As a rule, I avoid movies with subtitles. My vision is bad (I think I need new glasses) and I have to be VERY close to the TV to be able to read it. Because I have difficulty seeing the subtitles I don't read them fast enough and miss what is going on.

I went to one of the Blockbuster Kiosk and just rented a couple of movies for Christmas. I hate renting them as some days I really feel bad and have to take them back.
I like my netflix and can always find something to watch LOL
When I read the synopsis on the movie it did not say it was subtitled. In that way I was disappointed but getting to watch the movie I loved the art and beauty of the culture.

I haven't seen the movie, but I have seen programs on TV showing how they bind their feet so they stay small. Which they really are deformed. That looked so painful. People still do it today.
Sounded like a interesting movie.
