I only have one that is located in the hall. However, my apartment really isn't all that big so with it being centrally located, I think I'm covered.

I live in a two story townhouse and have two fire alarms in my home. There is no need for anymore since it is not very big and only has two floors. Thanks for the reminder. I do need to check my batteries. :-)

I haven't counted them but there is at least one in every room except the kitchen. The larger rooms have two different kind of alarms, one detects smoke and fire, the other one heat. I always keep a stock of extra batteries for the smoke alarms, it's so annoying when they are running out and then it's temting to just remove them if you don't have a spare one. Normally I don't like the "how many do you have" discussions but this is a good one, especially just before the holidays when everyone is putting up the lights and people will be using more candles.

What a very thoughtful post. This is something that is very important. Thanks for posting it. I lost a dear friend in a fire and I'm not sure if her smoke alarm was funtioning properly. I have 2 smoke alarms but I have a rather small house.

We have six in our house. (Definitely one in each of the bedrooms.) I always check the batteries whenever we set the clocks back and forward. I have been in that habit since I was little, I learned it from my parents.

We only have two smoke alarms in our apartment. But it's only like 900 sq ft. They do however have monoxide alarms in them as well.
