How do you define the word abuse?
When I think of the word abuse and what it means it is anytime anyone every hits another person. Young or old hitting someone is a form of abuse. Verbably calling someone names or saying yet full things all of the time is abuse. Metal and emotionally telling someone they are worthless and so one is abuse as well.

Verbal abuse is sometimes worse than Physical abuse. You can heal your broken bones or black eye but words can and do linger in your mind forever!

Yes and no because words can some times heal faster then wounds do. There some physical things done to people that will never heal like one being killed, or damaged brain, organs that can't be replaced.

I'm assuming that by your post your definition of the word abuse would be simular to mine. Is that right?

Abuse really does come in many forms and what might be considered abuse for one person, is something that really does not bother another person. I think that in its most commonly defined form, abuse is something that can cause any lasting damage and with the intent to harm. When you hit someone, that does hurt, but is the reasoning behind why a person hits and trying to determine why the person hit another person that causes the real last damage.
Mental scars rather tend to run deeper than any physical scars. Any kind of abuse, at its most base level, is going to be something that rattles the mind. Because we are always trying to figure out why a person would do such a horrific thing. It is just something that is hard to shake a lot of the time. Hitting someone, demeaning them, all abuse because it is done with the intent to harm and much lasting damage is caused.

Abusers don't know they are abusing people for the now part. Hitting no matter what is abuse for sure in word of the law. Mental, verbal and emotional is a little bit tricky.

Even though abuse is bad i. What ever way it comes it doesn't always badly affect a person it depends when you stop the abuse.
