I do have a Nokia E71x phone which I really like and enjoy it features and applications. It is really useful for me,in terms of either personal use or for office uses. After using my phone for more than three years,it got comatose hehe
when I accidentally dropped it.I was with an office mate in the mall looking for a new clothes when it fell on the floor. It dropped on the floor into pieces, the back cover, battery and the sim card where scattered in the floor.I thought it was just my wallet when I noticed that is my phone,I immediately pick it up and assemble again.Luckily when I turn it on it still working as if nothing happened, just few scratches in its casing. When I got home from work,it turn off by itself and when I'm trying to turn it on,nothing happens,it wasn't functional at all.
The day I went to the nearest phone repair center to check it up and know what was wrong then they said that I should bring it to Nokia service center.I brought it there and after initial check up,they said that they're going to change some parts for it to work but will cost 3000 - 4000 pesos in average.Really expensive, this amount of money can buy me a new phone today.
I decided not to repair it as of the moment due to expensive fee for the parts and keep thinking if I will go or it or just buy a new one.I do use my other phone as of the moment and my Nokia E71 is still in comma..hehe.
Friends, have ever experienced this kind of dilemma? How will it take for you to buy a new phone? Do you consider repairing it or just prefer buy a new one.

I experienced it with my iPod touch. I was taking a piss in the bathroom, but my earphones were attached to my iPod touch (I was listening music.) I put my ipod on the toilet(water)box thing. You know what I mean? But I wasn't paying any attention. When I was finished I walked away and my earphones plops out of my ears and my ipod felt into the water. I was on ninja mode and tried to take the ipod touch of off the water. I turned it off and try to repair it myself by heating it with hot air, steam, and after that it was finally working. Icouldn't bring him back, because my guarentee was expired and Apple doesn't inssurance water damage.

That thing happened to me too.I went to the bathroom to piss without taking off the headset and phone in the pocket of my polo. When I didn't noticed when I bend to get for something, eventually the phone fell on the floor and I immediately pick it up and wipe the small amount of water on the surface and quickly dried it.

Hello ardoy! ^^
3k to 4k is so expensive! You are right, I think it is nonsense to have it repaired when that amount could get you a new one!
About phone and sturdiness, I think Ericsson is the most sturdy. I've had one for several years and I always drop it but nothing changes with its performance ^^ It's T-something. I forgot the unit, my aunt from the US sent it over here. Haha, it even had a T-mobile logo on it ^^
I believe it is called "phone gaming" in the US.

Yeah I guess that it is nonsense to pay that much for the repair, instead I should look for and buy a new that almost the same price for the repair.I still keep the old one as remembrance hehe.

Hi there ardoy,
I have dropped phones a number of times. So now I am trying to be extra careful with my phones. One of my phones before SE K800i one day didn't work good to me. When I receive calls or make calls and somebody picks up from another line, it used to restart on its own. And one day, it just didn't open anymore.
I kept it for 3 years. I wasn't planning on having it fixed coz I feel it would be very expensive. I didn't threw it until one day my mom's nokia phone which was fixed a number of times already did not open anymore too. So I told her to try to have my SE fix so she can use it. She brought it in a repair shop. Luckily it was fixed and she is using it now since for I guess more than 2 weeks already. It's working okay now.
In your case, have you tried going to other repair shops which are not in Malls? If you did and they told you the same. Well it is wise to just buy a new phone. There are new phones cost around 3-4K pesos too. So why waste for that when you can buy a new one.

I already tried to bring it to some repair shop outside the mall and service center but they cant fix it either.I guess I should really buy a new one instead of making it fix and spend the same amount of money when I buy a new one.
