I am proud to support the people behind Stop Mahwah Mall.
Those people are dedicated to halting and repelling the developers who wanted a shopping plaza, the Crossroads Town Center, located near the intersection of Routes 287, 87, and 17.
I am familiar with the latter route mainly because I remember taking the bus on it during field trips with The Forum School. Most of them were free of traffic jams, a very common occurrence (especially in the Paramus area, where the school is located a few miles away). I learned from a very early age that Route 17 can be a friend or enemy just by how you plan your trip around a suitable time.
Well, I really have to give my kudos to the Stop Mahwah Mall folks. They should really take a trip to Brandon, Florida - near where I live - and look at the intersection of SR 60 and I-75. I know all too well about how bad traffic on the former is because people always want to come to the mall. But unlike in Bergen County, it's a 7-days-per-week occurrence. Just imagine the same jams on its New Jerseyan cousin, Route 17, in Mahwah if the mall is built.
So what do you think of the movement to deter developers from building a mall in Mahwah? If you are a Mahwah resident, chime in.

Hi. I'm not a resident of Mahwah, and I actually am not even from your country, but what's happening there also happens where I live. As a matter of fact, we have this very huge mall developer that not only puts up big malls all over the country (killing small businesses in the process), but has also ventured in developing tall condominiums. One of their project is a commercial/residential building beside the school of my son. This would really congest the already traffic-prone area and pose some possible danger since there have been finding that the ground the building is being built on isn't suitable to support tall buildings. There have been protests from both the school and the residents living in the vicinity. They even filed a case in court. But they're having difficulty going up against city hall.

That I (and the Mahwah denizens) can understand. Overdevelopment is going to raise the traffic levels where people don't want them. Take a look at Irksome Route 17, from being concurrent with Route 287 (aka Interstate 287) to about where it goes into Ramsey, for instance. If the Crossroads Mall would exist, it's going to add more to the already-at-times horrendous traffic. The traffic will spill into local roads. That's not nice - c'mon, Route 202 is not like Route 4 in Paramus!
So, thanks for sharing what Mahwah would be like if the mall would have been built by sharing your experiences from your Philippine city! I appreciate it!
