sharks killed for their fins

Until I have seen last Saturday’s show, I didn’t know that the shark fin that I am eating at a kiosk would really come from a fin of a shark. But it wasn’t told on TV whether it is indeed because what they said was the soups at those famous Chinese restaurants and their siomais contains shark fins.
One particular soup is the braised shark fin soup which cost PhP2,600.00 or more or less US61.00!
However, it’s such a pity that some fishermen would get the fins of the shark they catch , while they are still alive. And once they are done, they would just throw the shark without fins anymore , into the sea. So definitely, the shark will die eventually.
However, because these sharks are already endangered so they banned catching them, here in the Philippines.
To commiserate some Chinese restaurants have started taking out from their menu the shark fin’s soup. But some Chinese says, that until a law banning it is formally disseminated, they will still serve them in their restaurants.
Poor sharks!

This is just terrible, it shouldn't be allowed. If it is good or not, i don't know, but I don't think we should make other animals suffer and die for us to have 15 min of pleasure eating soup. Eat other things.

That's true. Let's just also be kind to those animals. They also have the right to live freely and unharmed.
The Chinese community in the Philippinnes has started banning getting the shark fins just to be able to sell those soups. But some Chinese restaurateur won't follow unless a law has been formally passed by the government about it.
So, i guess our government should really pass a bill or lay about it, indeed.

I think it is disgusting that they catch the shark and then throw it back into the ocean after taking the fins. That is animal cruelty. I think they should retying everything they do. I am getting to the point that I am getting fed up with the killing of animals. How would humans like it if there were others above us on the food chain and kill us for food. Just think about that.

I am sure they die. Then they become food for other predators. I think it is horrible. I cannot stand when I hear about animal cruelty. And for what? Shark fin soup. Give me a break, I have never eaten that, nor I have never eaten shark and I don't plan on it.

That is correct. I wonder how humans would feel if the tables were turned. Imagine humans being used for certain things, like maybe arms and legs and then being thrown into a pile to die. That would also be cruel. So we should leave the animals alone.

I saw that episode too. But, other than feeling sad for the sharks, the whole thing left me confused. I mean, why do they only make use of the fins? Isn't the whole shark delicious? I don't mean to imply that I don't care whether or not the sharks are endangered species. I am just simply wondering what the big deal is about their fins.

It was said that those fins can help alleviate arthritis, as attested by a woman that makes soups or viands out of some fins of the shark.
Yes, the meat is delicious specially in "kinunot" na malunggay ( malunggay in coconut milk with sili)

well anything that we eat that can be mass produced seemed to be poor because not only that there numbers will be depleted we will also destroy the ecosystem and thus in the future causing tons of problems not for the animals but for ourselves.

Correct! Some people only thinks of the monetary aspect in getting the fins of those sharks. They never value the lives of those sharks that completes the balance of the ecosystem.
How i wish, a stiffer law shall be imposed for endangered animals.
