The first terminator movie is considered horror but it became an action suspense on their sequels. The first "The Mummy" movie is horror but on its sequels it is transformed into a Family friendly adventure movie. and I remember there is a horror movie that became a romance movie on its sequel, I just forgot the title but yeah its weird. I also remember there is a horror movien that is very violent and r-18 on its first movie but it became Pg-13 on its sequel and turned into a family movie in the last part of the series, What do you think of the horror movies that changes Genre on their sequels. Why cant they stay horror? why change genre on sequels?

Terminator was supposed to be a horror movie? I watched all the Terminator movies and I thought they were all of the action and sci-fi genres. And also with The Mummy movies. I've always thought it's genre is adventure, family. Not horror. ^^

the first the mummy havce elements of horror and slasher movies and they have gore, the sequels dont. The fist terminator movie is an R-18 science fiction horror with slasher elements. The sequels dont have slasher elements.

I think what happens more times than not is that different directors and screenplay writers sign on for sequels and use the existing story as a catalyst to build their own and change it in the process.

that could be it, change of directors happens a lot, I also noticed some r-18 horror movies tried watering it down in sequels to have a bigger audience.

Definitely. I think what happens sometimes is similar to a lot of pop cultural interests. Once a fan base increases and broadens, the original concepts and stylings don't necessarily appeal to everyone so the product itself is changed to adapt. Take Terminator for example. Originally, it was about a female protagonist alone. The product itself changed by adding a child of hers to the plot. Then the Terminator unit that was programmed to kill Sarah Connor was suddenly reprogrammed a protagonist. That's a ton of changes to an original well-received film, all for the sake of adapting to a broader fan base.

and when we thought Terminator 4 is the last movie, there is freakin Terminator 5 and 6 in production already. the first terminator movie is like a stalker horror thriller, Terminator 2 is a badass and cool action movie.

I see your point. I also can't imagine why they change genres a lot with some horror movies. I would have preferred them to stay true to the first movie rather than that.

I forgot to mention, Freddie krueger movies use to be serious horror but it became a horror comedy on its sequel films.
