Today at work, my co - worker whining against AT&T while we were discussing the ISP companies we have respectively. Mine is with Clear, another co - worker is with Comcast, the one who complained is with AT&T. Recently, he joined AT&T because of the promotional rate is cheap and the speed is decent. Plus, with bundle of internet and phone together, he will get $100 gift card. Unfortunately, he joined AT&T for over 2 months, he didn't get his gift card, and the connection speed rate just ridiculous, much slower what they claim on the promotion paper. Furthermore, they charged a lot of those junk fees which is not appropriate. Now, he already signed the contract, and no matter what, he wants to cancel the service even have to pay for the penalty. Now, he only wait for the gift card of $100 and pay them with it.

Don't go bashing AT&T just yet. I have had a similar experience years ago with Verizon. They lied to me and charged me for every little thing. Then there were those hidden charges that they never explained to me. I called Verizon and I canceled. I did pay a penalty and I jumped ship to AT&T. I have been with them ever since. I love their policy with my sell phone and I have never had a problem with them. And any charge that I find to be out of order, they will explain it to me and adjust my bill for me. Now I have not tried their internet yet and I am thinking about it. I was also looking into Verizon's Fios for internet, but it does not seem like it is going to be available here in my area for a long time. So I have to stick with CableVision's optimum online for now. But they are the worlds worst company. Do not ever go to CableVision.

AT&T is government-owned? Gift cards are usually delivered as soon as you sign a contract and payment is made. From what you mentioned it seems to me AT&T was pulling the wool over your co-worker's eyes. If that's true, can't he complain about it and sue AT&T?

some companies are still deceiving consumers. this must be stopped. consumers must be king in the capitalist world. if the consumers are overwhelmed and scared to complain of their grievances and complaints to the companies, the producers will not improve and will belittle the power of the consumers. it is time that consumers hold the line.
