Indonesia

I think goreng-goreng is common foods which can be found every where all over Indonesia. They normally being sold in the small stalls or by pikulan. Goreng-goreng usually becomes popular in the afternoon, when people searching snack food on the way from office to home or just buy it for tea or coffee time at home. I observed goreng-goreng types are little bit different on every region but almost all of them has tempe, tahu, pisang goreng, singkong, Ubi ... I think that big five always serve every where.. Then there are variety like Bakwan, pisang molen,Risol etc... However, the size and taste of them are also vary every where..Like in Jakarta, Tahu has two option, Tahu isi and Tahu pong..the size are also very small..so how about in your region? Is there any different variety of gorengan types?

There are many types of fried food in Indonesia ranging from fried bananas to fried yams. Street foodstalls usually serve this kind of fried snacks. In Lampung, it is very similar to the one you explained. But I am now off this kind of snack for a while. Or if I really want it, I'd better do the frying myself. you see that oil that is used to fry snack with, is reused many times. So you'd better watch out too. Happy mylotting and regards from Lampung--the "tapis" city.

I think it is the creation of Lampung guys. We use flour to have it fried. It is the flour that is being fried. Inside it is still the same as when you eat it straight from its husk.

From some of the replies, I think goreng goreng is what you call the street foods (fried one) in Indonesia. Tahu is the fried tofu, and I can say that it is really healthy and tasty when it is dipped in soy sauce. I tried to search what pisang goreng is I found out it is kinda similar to what we have here in our country and we call it Banana fritters.

I think most of the people will like to eat goreng gorengan, since everyone love to eat fried food. For me, i love to eat fried tahu and also tempe, this two fried food is what i love to eat at indonesia. Since i am a vegetarian, so i only can eat this type of fried food. Hope that there is a lot of vege fried food to be found in indonesia too. :) happy mylotting.
