Hell and Hades - what do you think?

Replying to a post in one discussion lead to me wondering about these two. Although I've heard about them in certain Bible Studies but wasn't really listening, because I think like many people do, their attention is only piqued when the topic is reallllly interesting. Even people who have become christians for a long time are confused about hell and hades. What do you think about these two? Are hell and hades the same? Is Hades the same with the place called "Purgatory" by Catholics? Does hades exist until now even after Jesus died, rose again, and went to Heaven?

The question is deep. I can't know whether Hell and Hades exist, but in the Bible they will be mentioned many times. It is a matter of believe. I'm aware that evil and good exist. Actually there are things we can't know rationally, but we can believe at them.

You're right. It's a matter of belief and conviction. We only have to study and research more about it so we could understand better. Thanks, Rick!

Yeah, I've read about Hades being the underworld king of the Greek mythology. Maybe it's related with the hades in the Bible because they're both "underworld"...?
