Rite of Spring--when was it accepted??

Hi! Having finally gotten around to seeing a film on this famous score, it did make me wonder when the Rite of Spring was finally accepted amongst the general public as a classic piece? Kinda reminds me of It's a Wonderful Life. I know that didn't cause riots as Rite of Spring very nearly did but it too had a rough start.
