It was 1968 when I first moved to Canada and read Mario Puzo's book, The Godfather, which became a blockbuster movie and is still as exciting today to watch as when the first time I saw it. I have watched this movie - all three parts - in one session several times over the years not for the overall pleasure of just watching a movie, but to marvel again at the production value of the film, its main actors Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall and James Caan, the outstanding performances of all the actors, even Diane Keaton. An interesting fact that you might not know is that Brando was so intent on landing the part as the Godfather that when he went for the audition, he stuffed cotton wool into his cheeks to give himself that jowly look. I can go on and on about this film - the scene of the horse's head in the bed, and the scene of Sonny - James Caan - being shot down at the toll booths. What a film. I have a second best gangster film, Goodfellas with the wild and crazy Joe Pesci, and a third, Scarface with Al Pacino. Do you have a favorite gangster movie? Tell us about it.

The two first parts of The Godfather are real classics, one of my favourite scenes is that, when Sonny is shot, and that one when Michael (Pacino) kills the man who murdered his Grandmother in Sicilia, the whole thing, when he first meet him, all the flashbacks...is very intense.
Another good one is Goodfellas, brazilian film Cidade de Deus (City of God), Road to Perdition, and, among my favourites, Mario Puzo´s Once Upon A Time in America, I like the way it tells the history along three decades. Carlito´s Way is good as well, although the acting of Pacino in the movie is kind of an aging Michael Corleone, pretty much like in Godfather part 3

Okay, you have two of the names I put down. I don't know what BluRay is. In any event, I just love watching film, also foreign films from Europe and South America. Some Chinese films are also beautiful. No fighting films. A very good film recently was Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with the wild and wooly Gary Oldman. I had to watch it three times to get it... and it had to be quiet because it was a 'quiet' film and you missed nuances if you didn't watch closely. I watch nothing with Clooney or Brad Pitt in it. Pretty faces, no range.

bluray is like a dvd..but able to store higher qualities.. a dvd can only keep 9gb of data or film plus sounds inside it..but a bluray can stores 50gb of real High definition 1080p..which means : as good as the human eyes..(and if u using a hdtv than have a motion flow or refresh scan rates of 200hz or above) !! thats it.. your just like looking thru a window..while Marlon is acting his godfather role.
visit your local tv shop that have blurays..ask for a demo..
actually..i prefer chinese gangster films..like A BETTER TOMORROW,A MOMENT OF ROMANCE,MY NAME IS BROTHER or A BETTER TOMORROW 2.... these are triad films..like italina mafia..or new york mobsters..slightly different kinda organization and leadership..just like the Yakuza in japan..

I still go for Al Pacino's Scarface as it depicts his rise from poverty to riches, from a nobody to a king pin with all his guts and bravado. Godfather too comes in close for me as i am really baffled by the Mafia when it comes to family ties, and i do enjoy all those movies with the mafia thing including those one made by Warren Beatty, though i forgot the title.

Don't forget Casino with De Niro blown up in the car - Pesci's brutal killing in a field - and remember that scene with him, his mother and De Niro eating a meal in the kitchen while they had a live body in the car? It was both funny and frightening. Scorcesi and Coppola are the master producers and directors of films such as Good Fellas.
