saying number 1: " life isn't fair". saying number 2: life is what you make it. i hate sayings about life because they are so contradictory. which one are we supposed to believe. how can life be what i make of it if you just told me that it wasn't fair? so, then i make of it that's it's not fair. does that mean that we supposed to live in an unfair world and like that condition regardless? what do you make of it. which one are we supposed to believe?

I believe those events that are happening right now - bad or good events are created neutral. We are the ones that give meaning, we perceived it as it happen. We see a positive day during a rainy day or a depressing day during a vacation day. Therefore, I believe that life is neutral, instead of looking at it as unfair. Now, I'm inclined to believe that - Life is what we make it. Our choices will make or break our life. It is by wisdom and prayer that help us to choose the better path.

very well said. that is the best summary of both sayings that i have ever heard. i like how you said that life is really neutral. war is good for some people, bad for others. they say killing is wrong, but what if it's a child predictor. i understand your point. what's good and be bad and what is bad can be good. alas! more confusion.

Thanks MoonGypsy. I believe that in every war, each side has it's compelling reason on what made them go into that but they should resolve it first on a peaceful manner. War may only bring bad to both parties. Both parties should be active in resolving their issues. The future of their citizens lies to their actions. Also, people who violated a law or the right of others should face the consequence. Seeking justice for every one is needed. Life, really, is what we make it. We make or break our own future.

Maybe its not really contradictory and its probably good to believe both because we all know if we dont work hard to get what we want,we would not be satisfied which would definitely make us think that life isn't fair. The only way we might not feel that life isn't fair is if we make something good out of it.

i know it's good to believe both. i just wish the two statements were just absolute and dry. especially the first one.

life is not fair, because God had been created the conditions of injustice that we are as human beings can share and mutual help each others.
Life is what you make, because all your activities in this life will come back to yourself. Remember, life is worship. When you do good then the reward for yourself, when you do damage then the damage for yourself, too.
So, believe it or not, yourself which determines which one supposed to believe in this life

you are so right. i believe in karma and it's pretty fair. it's just that people don't understand it when they see it. rather, they probably don't understand the source of karma.

I guess they are both truths, just their wording is really extreme (because I guess those people who think in a really extreme way worded them)... because I think we should accept that we can't always get what we want (as we know from Rolling Stones :D), but at the same time, if you don't do anything for your life and your own happiness, nothing's gonna improve... and this way how I worded it, they are less contradictory I guess, because they not that harshly worded.

lol. so true, especially the first one, "life is not fair". it is so absolute. it sounds like someone who is just extreme in their thinking. probably harsh on themselves, too.

Life is what you make it. Yes, we know that Life isn't fair, maybe because you were born to lack everything or born in poverty and other people were born in a silver spoon. Maybe there are some reason behind it that we forgot to understand and analyze. Example, maybe I was poor because my parents are also poor which was also caused by not working and finding a good job. Maybe they did not do what it takes to have a better life than what they have now. Some reflections of this one in our society were the couples who keep in giving birth without thinking the future of their offspring. So therefore, Life is what a person makes it in order to be fair in life.

i agree life can be a result of your choices. in fact, it a big part. what i don't agree with is that if your parents are poor, then you are poor because your parents are. you may have repeated the same mistakes. consequently, it rendered you poor like your parents. however, one is not doomed to their ancestry.
