The phenomenon of boy bands

It's astounding to think of boy bands. The level of hysteria that they brought is just amazing. I'm not speaking of a particular boy band but in general. Really, from the Beatles, Backstreet Boys, NSync, Westlife, Blue, Take That... to the current boy bands like The Wanted and One Direction. Vocally, some of its member can sing well and did manage to have a career as solo artist after their group disbanded, but really there are a lot of good bands that sings better than them. And yet, take for example One Direction, they didn't win in the X Factor (finishing only 3rd) and yet their debut single went to #1 upon its release, their album was the fastest selling debut album in the UK for 2011 and won their 1st Brit Award for that debut single. Amazing right.. And I do love boy bands. I love them when I was a teenager and I still love them now that I'm a mom with 2 kids (yes, even if the current boy bands are much much younger than me).
