this is life - this is how it should be right?

The place we went to during our few days break was a bit far from the city. the place where my father built a simple home was on top a hill! we woke up with birds chirping, fresh air, with a very beautiful view of the sea and the shore.
The fresh morning breeze was cold but just right, i was on top of the house, the second floor, and i looked below and i saw my mom and dad having coffee outside.. it was one of those rare moments that i know somehow they are happy here. I could see why they rarely go back to the city with us.
If you are used to city life, easy access to water, electricity, technology i believe one will really have a hard time there, i thought i would but then i said to myself, why would it be hard? i mean i saw my cousins all happy with their lives, yes they say it is hard there but they are used to all the simple things they have. They have water still from the river which was really clean.. my kids i was surprised too, i thought they will find it hard without a proper toilet - as my parents will still have someone install and built it... but they didn't find it hard, they end up laughing about it and find the goodness of all the things around them. In fact they even woke up early, help sweeping some dried grass...giving the chickens food..
i love the simplicity of it all, i would love to have such a life, if only the kid's school is back there i would opt to stay there near my parents..but well we have to go back to reality - to the city.

When my husband bought some land in a semi rural town, I instantly fell in love with it and had dreams of putting up my house there designed by me. Life in the Metro was pretty hectic but we had done it all and seen it all. Today I have my dream house and unlike what you have described about your place, technology has caught up here at a rapid pace and everything excepting pollution has followed us here. We are indeed happy.

Yes i hope technology will catch up there but then i dont know when especially here in the Philippines there are still far flung areas where electricity could not even reach. The roads are still so rocky, not even concrete, no water pipes even... there are still remote areas still hard to access and areas with no mobile signals.. that is part of the reality here.
good to know you have now your dream house, how i wish i will have mine.

Here in India there are areas as described by you but for us a transition even to the place that we moved to was strongly felt in a positive way though. This place had the right infrastructure but the land that we bought was virgin and whoever bought land here were the first residents each with their ambitions. It is a well laid out place with beautiful bungalows and cars of every brand that one can think of. But that was not the case when we bought the land but I could see there was scope and my guess turned out to be right. The plus point is that it is not crowded unlike the Metro from where we came.

I too love the simple things in life but i haven't really been to the countryside lately. I would love to go camping, go near the mountains with no electricity and even phone signal, swim in the river naked if i could!
Wish life was as simple as before.

Only you and your husband can answer if this is how life should be for you. There are many things your children can learn that are not taught in a school. Is there no school at all if you were to live there?

Sad to say the schools there are quite a bit below par than that of the city's..

The simplicity of life isn't always found in the city. I have lived for 6 months in the province and I too loved staying there. It's really different from the city life. I have grown in the city and lived here for too long, but my short stay in the province really made meaning to my life. I even learned a lot of things there. The air is no fresh indeed and very quote unlike the city it's very polluted and crowded.

Sometimes, people in the province like to go the city because they thought that there are lot of opportunities there and they will become rich. But in what you have shown, it think some people in the province are richer compared to those in the city.
It is also nice to live there because of the environment.
We are currently living in suburban place. When we went home at the province, my son is really happy playing with my father. Feeding chicken, throwing stones at the rice fields and water. Running in uncemented roads, etc.
You are right, we need to face the reality when we go back to our house.
Simple life is sometimes much better.

I do agree with you. For someone who grew up at the city, i think it would still be a bit hard because i also got used to having comfortable things, bathroom, water in the faucet, refrigerator.. but then when we were there just for a few days, i was able to see that i can still live without those, even my children.
i have never seen them that happy, but then again the down side of it is that the school is a bit far and schools in the city are still better than the school in the province.

Yes, it is really hard for those who grew up in the city to live in the province. Good for your kids that they easily adopt in the province. Maybe, they are just curious about the things in the province that they did not use to see in the city.
Regarding the school, there are good school in the province especially the private ones that can be compared with the city schools. I came from a good school in the province, high school to mention. You need to pass the entrance exam and you must be among the top 90 examinees in order to get to that school.

I live in a province but i say i love it here.. The simplicity of my town is quite different in a city.. We may not have malls here but everyone here is very close to one another.. that's why i still choose to be here than in the city.. __

Unlike you, I live in a city and I am happy also where I live. But somehow I felt that those living in a province are healthier and more peaceful people due to having more fresh air, having less stress in their lives, and being away from a lot of disturbing surroundings.
Anyway, I still don't see myself retiring in a province but I would surely love to take short vacations in different provinces, probably about 2 to 3 times a year for 2 to 3 days per trip. That would be nice...I may plan that next year :)
