Have you ever heard of this animal or seen it before? I happen to come across it by accident today, I have never seen such an animal before. At first thought it was photoshopped this way. Turns out it is not. Despite the name, the maned wolf isn't a wolf at all, nor a dog, coyote, or fox. It's the only member of the Chrysocyon genus, making it truly a very unique animal, and just not at all related too any other living canid. A theory for this is that the maned wolf is the last surviving species of the Pleistocene Extinction, that wiped out all other large canids from their continent. Interesting, isn't it? I wish they still had more of them around, they are beauties.

Yes, VERY interesting! I have never seen this one before. I brought up some images of it on Bing and it looks like a cross between a red fox, a moose and hieina. One odd looking animal. They are a lovely color and handsome animal. They are from parts of South America. They hunt at night and that is probably why we haven't heard or seen them around before.

They look like they are about the size of a small horse. And they eat small animals so it would be expensive to keep one for a pet. I like to think of wild animals are left in the wild. And I hate to have just one of an animal. I don't like to see them alone. They need a companion.

Really? I never see such animal before in my whole life, and it struck me whether we can see it in the zoo or not. Are they aggressive, violent or any kind of it? I wish they are tamed, and easy to get to know with. So, where did you see this animal? In a mountain track, or some rural areas?

Hi NailTech, I have never seen or even heard of a Mane Wolf,,,but I see
it is the largeest canid animal in South America...Where did you see the
animal...
I must say that I am glad I haven't ...it looks like a weird animal to
me and would probably think my eyes were playing game on me...as
as I a afraid of dogs and never seen a real wolf....

The first thing I noticed was how long the legs were, then the head. They are just so different. I don't think we have many wolves here but there are foxes around by the cemetary a mile or so away and my brother has said he saw a fox wandering the streets maybe 10 blocks away one winter in recent years. They are rare though here.

Yes, actually I have. But only because I was on a pet game site, and someone ordered custom pets based on them. I've been fascinated with them, it is sad that their numbers are so low, but over time humans through hunting and their survival have killed off many beautiful species of animals.

I'm not sure if we have any wolves here..
