I am planning to go to Singapore possibly by 2013 if time permits. Unfortunately, many of friends told me that Foreign people are not prioritized for job seekers. I would like to go to Singapore for work and check out the beauty can Singapore can offer to me. Can anyone give me a current update for the employment for foreign people? How much money should I bring if I am planning to stay there at least 3-5 days?

haha, being a singaporean, not many of us are willing to welcome u because it means a cut of jobs for us locals. There are already people complaining about lack of jobs for locals because our government keeps encouraging employment of foreign workers If you are only here for a short holiday, maybe u need about $1k-$2, that should be more than enough, including accommodation and shopping.. haha

Well, I guess foreign people is not prioritized anywhere, unless there is a shortage of skilled labor in a given area. Being an immigrant is not easy, I tried in the US some years ago, I recommend you to contact friends or relatives already living in Singapore, if this is possible, of course, and get information with them, maybe they can help you to find a job, so, there will be a income source waiting for you there. I wish you good luck in your adventure.

I have never been to Singapore but I do have some friends working there. They said it's not easy to find a job there and the cost of living is also high. So, I am not sure if you could easily find a job there with your short stay there. Good luck though

I have never lived in Singapore. However, I heart that living is very expenses. If you would like to live here for a long time, I think you should have preparation about job, money and searching much about it.

The sentiments towards foreigners seeking job is not very friendly right now, but that doesn't mean it is hard to get jobs. It really depends on your skill set and the correct matching of the job. How much money to bring for a visit also depends on where you are staying. You can get by with about SGD25 (or less) for food for a day if you eat at hawker centres. Air-conditioned food courts will be about 30% more I guess. Try to choose hotels that are not too expensive, yet in a safe location. Get your local friends who are already in Singapore to recommend. You will need to cater some money for transportation. Get by with MRT or buses to save money, and if you game, walk. And when in Singapore, do as Singaporeans do. That means, obey the law and culture. Welcome, Welcome.

I have a few friends working there and I was encouraged by a friend to try my luck there. But at those times I was still having a contract with a company so I cannot just leave. That was 2007. Now 2012, I heard from a friend who was planning to go there for work and has a cousin working there for a long time says that now it is not easy to find job there. Unlike before, it has become strict. But maybe it all still depends on your experience and luck. Maybe if you go there, don;t leave your current job yet. Leave/resign once you secured a job. Goodluck!

Do you have Singapore friends? If yes, do let them know about your visit, and I am sure to help you out.

I'm not that sure about this but, I would have to say that it would be a lot easier and cheaper if you know somebody in Singapore so you can save money and be more introduced properly to their culture. Your friends are actually right in some ways with regards to the priority they give to job seekers since some were even laid off ever since the recession. But, if I were you, try seeking help from some people you may know who are already working there so it won't be too much of a risk for you. Good luck!

hi syoti, The cost of living in Singapore is really high my friends had hard time finding a job even they are board passer and a licensed ones because the company priorities locals there. The fare is cheaper but the food, fare and other expenses is quite high so I think you better think twice if you are planning to go there as a tourist then your plan is to find a job. happy mylotting
