i dont want to lose my money but it would take me foever to save uo for the new ones if those are legit....

I don't know much about Amazon but I do know a lot about buying second hand items because I am into buy and sell here, mostly local, so I think I could give you some advice about choosing the right one. I really believe that it would greatly benefit you if you could actually find sellers in your area, one where you can personally check out and test the unit. I don't know if it's not popular in your place, but it is here. Anyway, maybe you could ask about it from friends, of places or people who are into this business, buy and sell. A referred person is already a good sign, knowing that your source is legit. Now all you have to do is meet the person and check out the item. One other benefit from this is, you could do the negotiation personally, therefore giving you the chance to see if the item you are buying is worth the price and if not, the bargaining, in my experience is easier when done in person. I should also add that in checking out the item, one must know what to check out.
I mean, it's not just about the item functioning, rather it's about it and all it's parts functioning well, right? So, if you are not really sure you know how to find any faults, if there are, then it would be best to bring somebody who does.
So that's just about it. Anyway, I hope I have helped and if not, I still hope you get a good deal wherever it is you plan on buying it.

i didnt think about looking online and there are a few sites on facebook for local people trying to sell things and you can post what you are looking for there also. i think i will give that a try also that way i can open all the doors and get the best that i can for my husband. now i am the typw who can point out the small things and i can start it up and do a few things and tell if it is running ok but there is a lot i do not know so i guess i will have to spill the beans so to speak lol if i do it this way so that my husband can look at it but i also know that my daddy knows a lot about computers so it may be that if he isnt busy that he would go with me.
yes this did help out a lot and i appriciate it very much. i want to look into all my options and know what is best for me to do. i also dont want to be scammed in the process which is the reasoning for the start of this lol.
is there an easy way to find all the "buy and sell" people that are local?

Amazon has pretty strict policies that Marketplace sellers have to follow. Any purchase you make on the site is guaranteed. Marketplace sellers have to have return policies that are at least as favorable for the buyer as Amazon's own policies are, so you shouldn't have any trouble returning any item. If there is a problem with the item you buy and you can't resolve the problem with the seller, they have an A-to-z Guarantee program where you can file a complaint within 45 days of the purchase and Amazon will mediate the dispute.
If you want a bit of an extra guarantee, look for items that say they're fulfilled by Amazon. That means that the Marketplace seller sent the item to Amazon, so Amazon is taking care of the entire order. You'd deal directly with Amazon if there's any problem with the order.
What sort of a budget do you have to work with for your laptop purchase? I might be able to suggest a few if I know your price range.

really i do not have a price range. i found 1 that was about $110 but i mean i can pay more if i have to like $200 or a little more. i use another site that you can get amazon gift cards and it is really easy to do so i have been looking into doing this. i just hope to get him something that i know he will enjoy lol but i also want to get one for myself.
i did not know all this about amazon thank you i will have to go back and look around a little more. i was just glancing thro and havent been back since my aunt said it was a scam. i just couldnt believe if it all was a scam that this many people would use it lol. she said the best thing to do is just get the books.
have you used amazon a lot? if so what was your experiance with them?
thank you again for all the helpful information i appriciate it a lot :) and now i know what to look for when i do decide if i want to purchase soemthing :)
