My daughter always asked me to buy 2 notebooks. I thought she just like to draw something on it like what she always does before. And when we went to a trip two weeks ago, she brought her notebooks with her. And at the boat, she kept on writing. I asked her what is she writing, and she responded that she was writing a song and the other notebook, she was writing a story. I asked her if I can read the songs that she wrote and she said to go ahead as long as I won't laugh. hehehehehe I was very surprised that she can really write! She had a nice idea. She can write better than me. I cannot write anything at all when I was at her age and even when I was high school. lol I just didn't have any ideas. My daughter is only 7 years old. I showed it to her cousin and my sister, and they like it also. They thought I taught her what to write.
The title of the songs or poems that she wrote so far are: 1. Jeans, 2. I know, and 4. Ocean.
And the story that she wrote is "The Fairy World".
I am so impressed about her having a writing skills. How am I gonna teach her to improve her writing skills? Is there any workshop for it?

Chicgale, this is a wonderful discovery you have made for you and for your daughter! What an adventure awaits both you and her as you grow together! One of the most important influences on writers is that they become readers, and that they have as much positive exposure to books and language as possible! Read to your daughter, read with her, have her read to you and let her see you reading for enjoyment. It is also interesting to partner with your local library: when my son was small, he and I visited the library often and on occasion they has some super storytellers which we both enjoyed and they had a positive impact! I always enjoyed reading and wanted my child to be a reader, so I read to him before he was born and from the time he was born. He was an early talker, an early reader, and is now beginning this fall in the University of Georgia's Journalism School! I know you are proud of your little girl and you should be! Just keep on being an encouraging mom and her story will have a happy ending!

Wow!! That is so cool. Maybe that is her real talent and if you see that she has that potential of becoming a writer or a journalist someday, then teach her any way you can or give her tools and materials that can educate her how to write properly and all that stuff. She's so young and already showing that much talent, then you should really be very proud of her. Maybe aside from some notebooks, you could give her some books she can read.
What your daughter is doing is pretty awesome and you must be really doing a great job raising a kid like that.

That's great! I would really love it if kids would be more into books than video games. My nieces and nephews are always into watching TV and playing computer games and I hate seeing that in them. A good thing though that I've noticed with my nephew is he loves to draw and even got an award for it at school. But now, he comes to the house and plays computer games which I sometimes scold him not to do all the time. Your patience of reading books to your daughter pays off and now she is into books and writing. A bright future ahead.

It depends on where you live, but yes, there are workshops. Sometimes, they even have them at your local bookstore. In Montclair, CA at the Barnes & Noble, there is a writer's workshop and it is for all ages, but she might want to buy books or borrow books on how to write. I have a whole library of books at my house and many of them are books on how to write. Yes, the early she gets started, the better, but you have to really work with her. Help her expand her vocabulary, buy dictionaries for her, have her read a lot of books because the key to being a good writer is having been well read (ask any author and you will find out how true this is), have her go to different places if she can to gain some inspiration, and have her talk to other people who write. She also have so to be tough when it comes to writing because she is going to have to take a lot of criticism and most of it will not always be positive.
For the record, I recently received my English Literature and Language Bachelor of the Arts Degree from California Polytechnic University of Pomona, so I know exactly what the process is and how much goes into that process, and believe me, it is a process.

Thank you rogue, and Congrats as well. Yes, I bought her a lot of books already, and she sees me reading books also that's why she read her book also. She needs to learn on how to use punctuation marks. hehehehe I think there are workshops here in our place but it only happened during summertime.

hi, so nice to hear that, your daughter got that ability , at so young age, definitely its God's gift. I know /can guess how parents feel proud about their children when they do/start any productive work, at so tender age, you are very like. May God bless her with immense talent.
thank you

Well it was so nice to hear that a 7-year old girl has such penchant for writing as we usually see 7-year old girls playing with toys and stuffs especially the Barbie dolls and all.
Well i recommend her to first follow newspapers by reading it daily. That would not only help her get acquainted with new words but would also sharpen her writing skills. Besides writing blogs, posting updates on social networking sites and spending more time on sites like MyLot would be of great help for her.

She has natural talent to be writer it seems to me. So, let her grow such skill naturally, and she probably end up be a good writer some day. I would love to write sometimes, but I was just lazy and lack of good idea and all that. I wish that I will discover some special skill that I have, and I can get a grip of it, and make it a great earning money skill of my own.

Wow that is wonderful. I don't have any idea if there is a writing workshop but she can just practice writing or you can ask her to have her own blog. But of course you need to guide her with it since she's still a minor. I know a mommy blogger who has a young daughter who is also blogging.

Well,i'm glad you have such a good daughter,if she likes writing let her write, perhaps she really has a talent in writing, hehehe```as a mother, what you need to do is to encourage her, praise her writing, even if sometimes you will feel very funny, this age children need to encouraged and praised from adults, perhaps you can send her to go to training courses, professional teachers will help you teach your daughter,it is also a good idea.
