Obesity... product of laziness or more?

With our ever expanding waistlines, I thought it would be interesting to start a discussion/debate on obesity and being overweight in general.
Here are some disturbing figures to ponder:United States: 30% of adult population considered obese.
Canada: 23% of adult population considered obese.
England: 22% of adult population considered obese.
Australia: 25% approximation based on 1995 results from this China: 7% adult population considered obese.
Keep in mind the percentages may seem low in some countries, but this is obesity only. If you want to consider overweight trends, these numbers will double or even triple (definitely in the US, where over 60% of adults are classified as overweight).
So, what is your opinion of obese people? Is lifestyle to blame? Are you sympathetic or disgusted when you see a severely overweight person? And what do you think when you see them eating food? Do you ever wonder if their weight might be from medication side effects due to an entirely different medical ailment? Or do you feel they should just get off their duffs and lose the weight? As we all should know, an abundance of health issues come from being overweight or obese (diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, and much more). Those potential health risks seem not to matter to most as the numbers continue to rise.

I believe there is in a majority of cases something that causes obesity not just being lazy.
It may be depression or another health problem that cause obesity.
What I don't like is how the kids are becoming obese.
This 80% of obese kids I blame on the parents, I consider this neglect and they should be charged if there is no medical condition.
I won't let my kids eat junk all the time they get healthy lunches and are told when they are hungry to eat a peice of fruit.
We have lollypops in the cupboard and ice-cream in the freezer for rewards.
We get take away only once every week or 2 sometimes not even that amount.
Easter, christmas and birthdays are a different matter they get to go crazy with the junky food.

I don't really look at obesity people as being lazy. They just not watching what they're eating sometimes or most of the time. Some of my friends can relate and this is how I know this. They're not lazy, they just don't eat right. Right?
