I have heard that yorkies and poodles are good.

I got my first chihuahua as a child because of this myth my mother believed it was true as mine got better .I want to warn you I bred chihuahuas around 20 years they can shead I mean alot so if your child is alergic to dogs don't get one .
Poodles are non sheding so are bichons .If you just want a pet you could try a poodle mix from a shelter they tend to not shed and there always seems to be some needing homes .

There is an enzyme in a dogs saliva that triggers the allergic reaction. When they groom themselves it is transfered to there fur. Chihuahua's are so small they have less of this allergin and can slowly desensitize a person over time. Hairless dogs like the mexican hairless or Xolociquintl( xolo pronounced SHO-Lo) or the chinese crested do not have the fur which traps the allergin. So they are less likely to cause the reaction. I have a life time of allergies to animals but I have 9 dogs, 16 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 3 birds. My mental health depends on them. I love them so.
