This is historically and mythilogically Important Place. The history of this place is associated with the great Indian Epic, Ramayana. The name to this place came due to Rama's pronounciation of the word Le-Pakshi. Le means Get Up, Pakshi means Bird. Rama found the wounded Jatayu(Big Bird) in this place. Jatayu tried to rescue Sita from Ravana. There is a Veerabhadra temple(Shiva's incornation) constructed in this place. This temple is originally built by one of the war lords of Vijayanagara Empire (Hampi Vijayanagara). Some portions of the temple could not be completed. This place is approximately 125KM from Bangalore on Hyderabad High Way. The interesting features of this temple include, ceiling paintings, statues of Vastu Purusha( Divine Man), and Dansing Rambha (Devine Danser), Stories of Shiva and Vishnu in both sculpture and paintings, and a big Swing which was used Goddes Durga. You can also see a huge feet imprinted on the stone. Close to the temple there is a big statue of a Nandi. Some photos enclosed.
