MySpace is populated by young and naive kids and predators of them! Don't you think they should have some type of age restriction, parental permission or something in place on MySpace?
Even Mylot has an age restriction of 16 or older.
Here are some sights that me and my children use that are safe and fun: (please share any you might recommend)

Yes there should be some kind of restrictions. Teenagers think they are invincible, we have to protect them. I have a friend that found out her 17 year old daughter had a my space page. She got the code and checked on it. It was truly scary, this girl used here real name, city, high school and picture. She said she was a sexy blond looking for fun. It would have been so easy to track this girl down, she had no idea how dangerous it was. Young people are so nieve, and they think they are so wordly.

It's sad because the kids are just trying to have fun and they don't realize what kind of sickos are out there. I allowed my almost 12 year old to watch a special on it because it was a clear warning that this is what really happens. These people will lie about their age and interests just to get close to your our kids!
Thanks for sharing : )

Thanks for this information MySpot because although our son is way past the age where we have any worries about sites that he might visit, we do have friends with teenage children. I think that MySpace should have an age restriction but how do they police such things? It is up to the user to be honest and if teens really want to access such things they can put anything in.
I do agree about the predators on the internet and know a couple of people who monitor such sites. One works for a company to monitor the internet and she works from about 4.00 p.m. till about 2.00 a.m. and someone else works before and after her. Also she has some time off during this period because of her own children. I am not sure what sites she works for but they are checking out what the teens are doing/saying etc.
It is scary honestly, and I am pleased that we did not have the internet when our son was going through these years.

Thanks for your input. You are lucky for that!
I'm always monitoring my oldest child's online activity. AOL offers parental blocks, so that helps us know our kids are safe from adult content. I think ALL providers should offer this and ALL parents should use it : )
I hope more parents will see this discussion and use the links provided for their children's educational online fun!

Glad to help : )
My son's favorite is the www.sesamestreetworkshop.com (he's 6 years old)
and my daughter, who's 12 in December, loves the kiddonet.com because it let's them instant message but they have to choose from a drop down list of suggestions, instead of typing actual replies. I think it's the coolest kids myspace-type site. They get to create a profile, avatar, and interests group.
