Tell me what you think about bank service charges.

First, let me say, I worked in a bank. I understand partly why they have to have service charges. Here is what I don't understand: Why is it that the biggest service charge they impose is the insufficient funds or overdraw fee? This is the scenario. You write a cheque. For whatever reason, it comes back noted as NSF (non sufficient funds). When you look at your statement, you will see that they not only marked it that way...they charged you 25 or 30 extra dollars as a service charge for not having money. What is up with that? You don't have enough money, so they take away more of your money to remind you, and they charge you that same 25 or 30 dollars for every overdraw you make.
By the time you overdraw maybe 3 or 4 cheques, quite often by accident, you've been charged 100 or more for not having money. How much sense does that (not) make??

Sometimes you just didn't make it to the bank on time to deposit that cheque, and there are numerous other reasons why you might overdraw your account accidently. Nobody is perfect. Besides who is going to overdraw their account just for pleasure, knowing it's going to cost them that much? Oh ya, I want to lose that money, I think I'll go on a shopping spree...
