looking for history of old cards

Recently bought an old box of birthday cards at a garage sale. They are all humorous and some of the hand drawn images are signed by Wm. Box. the backs of these cards only show a number, such as 25-3011 with a copyright symbol and USA. Others , also cartoon type drawings , are not signed, but the back shows Humorettes by Pace-Line cards, Inc. printed in U.S.A. Still others show the word Citation on the back with an address of 25 HB 579 , New York, N.Y. All these cards(over a hundred with envelopes) are cartoon type drawings with a humorous theme and measure 3- 3/4" w. x 9" h. Does anyone have any knowledge of the history or origin of any of these cards? They are pretty funny and and seemed worth the $2.00 I paid for them. Any information would be appreciated. Roger
