Is anyone else bipolar? If so, how do you live with it? Do you have more manic or depressive episodes? Have you told your friends? Has your family accepted your your condition?
I was diagnosed two years ago febuary 2007 and I'm still having a diificult time dealing with it. My meds seem to get changed every time I go into see my pdoc.

I am bipolar 2...the depressive episodes occur more frequently. (Actually sometimes they never go away, lol.) I was diagnosed about three years ago, after battling depression all my life. It was an extremely harsh event that led to the discovery of me being bipolar. Most of my family is not excepting...I am thankful that my children (they are grown now) understand, and my fiance understands. My friends are my support and have been through it all. I know what you mean about your meds getting switched all the time. Mine do to. I am just going back on Lithium after being off it and on Lamictal. It is a hassle, but I know my doctor is just trying to look out for my well being. It is important that you can trust your doctor. If you can't, may I suggest you find a new one. So, what about you are you type 1 or 2?

Not really sure which type I am. I, too, having more depressive episodes than manic. But when I am manic I don't sleep for days and spend money like it's going out of style. Which is not good. I've spent bill money before and later regreted it. I trust my pdoc. He has helped me a great deal. I guess I'm lucky because, for the most part, my family is very suppotive. My friends have been very supportive, too. One thing that is good about being diagnosed is now I know why I've always had such drastic mood changes.

That's true, it does help to finally have a diagnosis. You are fortunate that your loved ones understand. Having a support network is crucial in dealing with bipolar, no matter what type you are. What meds do they have you on? I hope it gets better for you.

I'm bipolar as well and I was diagnosed several years ago. My family had a hard time accepting it even though my sister was diagonsed with it back in the 70's. She was one of the originals first put on Lithium.
I have a lot more depressive periods then manic. How do I deal? Somedays better then others. Some days I don't want to get out of bed. It can be very rough but other days are more of an even keel day.
I'm not on meds right now due to no money and no issurance so I can't afford it. I wish I did because I know from past experience I did much better on meds.
Changes in your meds are normal until they find the right dosage and combination that works best for you. Don't worry too much on that but do make sure you keep a log or something like it to not down changes, both good and bad. That way when you go to see your doctor you have some reference to go by.

I have more depressive moods than manic, too. But when I am manic I spend money like crazy, stay awake for days on end and just can't anything done. Maybe you check into getting disability so you can get your meds. It's worth a try.

My son is bipolar. He is on depakote for this, he also has epilepsy and is adhd. He was weaned off the depakote because he had not had any seizures and that is when the bipolar came out like gang busters, i also assumed that he was bi polar but the meds for 9 years keep it pretty much under control, needless to say he is back on the depakote for the condition. He has major depression moods, and then manic moods at the snap of your fingers, i am thinking that his dosage may have to be increased, he was going to counsling recently because of a break up and it got really bad, i am hoping that everything will be back evenly soon.
