If i had to be the president or either prime minister of my country i would change the minimum wage of salary to something better. And lower some political huge salarys!
Once i did talked with the ex-prime minister of my country and asked him a simple question of... why the political people earn lots of money? And he´s answer was that they had lots of responsabilities cause they wherent making rules in the house but to a huge country itself and to big responsabilities big salaries... so... talking about those responsabilites and the "maximum" wages they are earning, how come they didnt do anything to make the country a better country? If they are getting paid ... they should do something, right ? I am not seeing much results in my country... so should they get paid when the country itself hasnt a good result? If i do something wrong in my job, either one my boss quits me and then i dont get a salary , or i have to pay it in other ways like more work or more hours. how abt them ?? Anyways... what would u do if you had a chance to change your country...in what way would you do it?

Raising the minimum salary is not the solution. And of course in portugal, going, let's say, from the actual 380 Euros/month to, for example, 450 Euros/month would cause a job crisis. This is because about 12% of the population is earning the minimum wage, and then the majority of the companies could not cope with that increase. The huge ones can, but the SME's cannot, this is not a political issue, is more a social and cultural issue.
The problem in Portugal is that performance is well below the world average, we have the best brains, we have people working hard and being the best in the world in te technology field for example, but we also have the opposite: we have people that do not work, they are very slow, they only do what is necessary, and go for a smoke or a coffee every 15 minutes. I often loose my patience in public services, people only talking about the week-end, and family, and so on, and the customers are awaiting... and awaiting.
Before raising salaries we should think about reducing taxes, and especially change people's mind and make our economy more competitive, this is what is required. Then when your work is worht it and you get a real added value, you can plan for the minimum salary increase...
