What kinds of soap do you make? From scratch or the melt and pour type. I have been making soaps for years and now my family is spoiled they hate store bought. Do you attend fairs or give them away.

I have a book on making soaps, but have yet to try making soap. Someday maybe. Christmas is coming... Maybe then, as gifts.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mcc371 (683)  2 years ago

I started making soaps to give as gifts for several at christmas now I regularly make it for my home because nobody likes store bought anymore. I have several books too, I do the melt and pour but would like to learn the way from scratch..kinda leary of the lye ingredient.

LOL I bought 2 or 3 books too and have never actually tried it. I guess I am a little scared to get a lye burn

myLot reputation of 91/100. mcc371 (683)  2 years ago

lol, yeah that is why i go to hobby lobby get the melt and pour glyercin and add fragrance or color to it and make my soap that way. I have read over the books I have on making soap and looked at several websites on the soap made from scratch but I guess I am gonna have to take the plunge..LOL

I make melt and pour soap. I love how you can be creative with it using different molds, colors, and scents. I have my own eBay and Etsy store to sell my soaps. I do not sell much, but I make almost enough to keep my hobby going.

I thought about selling on ebay but the fees are so excessive. Where is the etsy store I have never heard of it I don't think.

Thanks for the response.

Etsy is similar to eBay, but it is only for handmade items. The fees are not anywhere near as much. You get a store for free and it cost $0.20 per quantity of listing and the listing stays for 4 months. It also offers a wonderfully helpful community. You should check it out sometime. The url is etsy.com. Feel free to also check out my store kjscrafts.etsy.com to get an idea of how it is laid out.

i wish that i could make homeaded, i think that it would taste so much better then the store bought. I know my mom really makes good homeade soup. but i did not get that cooking gene.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mcc371 (683)  1 year ago

I had to read your post twice to make sure that is what you said...

Yes, Home made soup is good to taste, but don't think I would be tasteing the homemade soaps that I make. ..practice always helps.

LOL!!! That was funny! I am thinking about trying it out. My kids think it would be fun to make soaps!! Does it cost a lot to start out making soaps?

myLot reputation of 91/100. mcc371 (683)  1 year ago

no it isn't expenisive, go to a craft store and start out with the melt and pour soaps. To see if this is a hobby you might want to start doing- Some craft stores have kits you can buy and make it, I bought the melt and pour glyerin soap, a few molds, and some color and scents and have been addicted ever since.

I've never tried before but after the reading the postings, it sounded like fun to do so. maybe i'd look over the internet on the guidelines.

myLot reputation of 91/100. mcc371 (683)  1 year ago

It is very simple to make your own soaps, They are so pretty and the scents & colors are the ones you choose. I have given them mostly as gifts and sold a few here and there.
The internet is a great place to do some research. If you have a Hobby Lobby or other craft store near by you can go there and see the supplies. Fair Warning though. It is an addictive hobby, and your friends & family will love you for it.

what type of soapdoyou make the liquid type the detergentor the soap cakes, please let me know the formulas and method for doing the same

myLot reputation of 91/100. mcc371 (683)  1 year ago

I make different ones like the small scented color soaps you display in the bath, Bar soaps for the shower and I have made some bath salts to bathe with. None of my soaps are liquid. I make the melt and pour one like you get from Hobby Lobby, I would like some day to make my own from scratch but I am afraid of the lye so for now the hobby continues the easy way.
