Why do black people get so offended when people call them NIGGE?  |

|  It's Ok for the black person to call a white person a HONK. or GRIGO or White Boy or what ever else they want to call us. But if a white person calls a black person Nigge than the boxing glove come off. I think people of all races need to join together and realize that we all have feeling and that by calling a person a name no matter what his race is offencive to each one of us. We need have respect for each other or we have to accept this slang terms and not find them offensive. What do u think?

| |  I don't think it's OK for any person of any race to call another person of another race any type of derogatory name. Black people do that because amongst a lot of us it doesn't have a negative connotation when used just between us. I have never heard anyone say that it is OK for a Black person to call a white person or Mexican person any other derogatory slang name. It is absurd if you think that word will not be found offensive out the mouth of someone who is not black. Never gonna happen, sorry.

That's right. People shouldn't call other people names especially when he knows that it would offend the other person. People shouldn't accept this offensive term at all. Also, I don't think White people accepts it when they are called "white boy". It's still offensive. | | | |

| |  Slavery is not long gone it did not abruptly end in 1865 we struggled for decades to get to where we are today and it is still not done. We are the only race that can vote only by an act of Congress that is up for revote in 2007. My friends were beaten with bats by members of the KKK just a few years ago. We have come far but it is not over because you cannot change hearts and minds people will still have hate in there hearts now matter the laws.

| | We are the only race in history that was enslaved and then after being liberated we stayed and lived among our oppressers, there will be some problems. It took 400 years to strip the history, culture and dignity from us and it will probably take as long to get it all back. Name calling is wrong from both sides but you do have to understand the extra sting that is associated with that word.
This is coming from the decendent of a Hatian slave that was raped by a French slaveowner that resulted in the birth of my great grandmother. The pain and struggle from slavery is not over it has been a slow painful process to come to where we are today and it is not totally right yet. Just a few years ago a waitress refused to serve my family because my Mom and I almost look white but my Dad is very dark. Her exact words were "I ain't servin' no n1ggers". The laws are in place but you can't change what is on someones heart the mentality is still alive. | | | | | | |

| | You are absolutely right. The mentality IS still there. Whites haven't faced the oppression, and the terrible treatment. Maybe someday they will, but maybe not, because 'white' is slowly disappearing.
People still see the difference and some are still taught that the difference matters. while I think that it is ridiculous it is still a fact.
In the future, racism will dwindle away, because there won't be any real difference anymore.. Everyone will be darker, If anything white will become a minority. Not to mention many of them will probably be killed off by their susceptability to skin cancer.
