Do you feel your state or country is doing enough to help disabled people?

I work for a company that provides clerical training for people with mental and physical limitations so they can get a job in an office environment and we also help them find jobs. Does your state or country offer these types of programs so people with limitations can work and make a living for themselves? Can they do more to help?

No I dont feel that either our state or country does enough to help disabled people. Here we have to actually go to court in a lot of cases to prove that we are disabled and be able to collect the money that we have actually paid into over the years. In addition, a great deal of people in our country are at poverty level and are unable to receive even health care. So no, unless you are already rich or have money here, the government just waits for you to die.

I think that is terrible that you have to go to court to prove that you or another person is disabled. Our government does need to do more to help our people who have physical or mental limitations.

I am sorry and sad to hear that your place does not do anything for people with limitation. Every state and country should do something to help those people. They have a right to live a good life like everyone else.

Canada does have programs for disabled people. We have computers specifically for certain disabilities. We have programs designed specifically for disabled people. We also have legislation to help employers hire disabled people in the form of monetary benefits. Our health program has areas designed specifically for disabled people. However in the Philippines where I grow up there are no such programs:(+

That is great that Canada is aware and does something to help those people who are limited. It nice to hear that and hope that the Philippines may do something very soon to help their people.

I think they are, I'm not really sure. I know my brother in-law is being taken care off. He has social security benefits and he works at a supermarket regardless of his disability.

That is nice to hear that your brother in law is being taken care of and is getting benefits and has a job. My state is doing pretty good at helping disabled people but there is always room for improvement.

It is sad that they are not doing anything to help people with disabilities or anyone for that matter. Wish that there was something that could be done about it.

I agree with Lilith with this. I know many people who need to be on disability but in order to get themselves declared by the state and/or federal government they end up fighting for years and often they have to go to court. I've heard of some people it taking upwards of 7 years to get it finally done. Now those in our area that are born with disabilities, for example mental retardation or other conditions, do have programs to help. It's the ones who become disabled once they get older from accidents or what have you that have the problems in getting any sort of help.
