Anybody using Google Docs and Spreadsheets? |
| |
| Google recently introduced Google Docs and Spreadsheets, free Web-based word processing and spreadsheet applications. Has anybody tried these? Do they work well, and if so do you think they'll be a good alternative for people who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on Microsoft Office? | | | | | |

| | Great, thanks for the details. Can you save the documents on your hard drive, or is it all on the Web only? I guess you couldn't open it on your hard drive, since there's no app to open it. | | | |

| | The files are automatically saved in the website. However, you can still download the files from the Google Docs (just select the files and use the Action option and pick Save ~~~ and it gives different options for how you want to save the files as) | | | |

| | Thanks, good to know. If there's an ISP outage I wouldn't be able to access my docs, so if they were important I'd want them on my hard drive, too. | | | |

| | I haven't tried them because I'm paranoid about security. I am just hesitant for any internet application to have access to my data files, even if it's just while I'm composing them. | | | | | | |

| | I hear you... I think I'd be hesitant to create or store any docs on there had confidential info, really personal details, financial stuff, etc. Not that I don't trust Google, but you see well-meaning companies get hacked or acidentally release people's info. | | | |

| | Pretty amazing! I'll have to look it up. I have MS Office on my "old" computer but no printer hooked up right now and too lazy to get that done! lol The new computer only has WordPad, which is very limited! My kids could surely use the Google version if it works well and get their papers done much easier! Thanks for the info! | | | | | | |

| | I'm going to check it out, I really don't want to pay $400 or whatever to buy MS Office just to do a few documents or spreadsheets once in a while. | | | |
