Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is where a woman has a large increase in male hormones. It causes problems such as excessive hair growth (particularly facial hair), lack of menustration, fertility problems, and an increased risk of ovarian cancer. If you experience these problems, you may want to talk to your doctor and take blood tests to rule out other health problems to find out if you have this condition. It is more common in overweight individuals.

it is not that it is more common in overweight women...it is more that women that have PCOS are overweight....being overweight does not cause PCOS, PCOS causes women to be overweight.......make sense??? That male hormone that you are talking about causes the excessive hair, acne, weight gain in the mid-section of the body...which is also know to cuz higher sugar levels as well as possible higher insulin levels.... I found out that I have PCOS July of 2006...and have been trying to find out as much as i can about what happens to women with PCOS......i have not tried to have children yet but my husband and I will be trying within the next 6 months or so.....i will probably have to get on fertility medicine to get pregnant so we will see.. i do have a lot of the symptoms......the hair growth, acne, weight gain (i gained 40 pounds in 5 months) and the main one is the no periods and lots of pain!!! i havent had a period in almost 4 months....its kinna scary cuz i was never like this b4.....i had really heavy periods when i was younger...they are now saying that is a eary sign in young women and teens. it took the doctors two months to figure out why i was having crazy pains in my right pelvic area....now we know....but i didnt have any visable cysts at the time....so yeah quite interesting!!
