While on my first place of posting in the current job I had to live in a rented house in a far away town. It was a two roomed house with marshy surroundings . Rates and mice were daily treader of the house .However I tolerated the noise of their fights and races in my bed room. However , they never touched any of my belongings .My friends adviced me not to touch them , otherwise they would do me harm .
But the unfortunate happend when one of my friends had to stay one night eith me . After a sleepless night he was too angry to even take my permission while taking a delicate decision relating to the life of night friends -the mice and rates .He purchased one trap and borrowed another for catching them . The next night ,two mice were trapped and he killed them both against my wishes .He was so happy to kill the mice . But to me the killings were unnecessary and therefore ruthless. We argued .
To my friend it had not been unnecessary since the mice disturbed us . But I considered ourselves to be disturbing them , because the house had been their abode and not ours.
Anyway , there was no meaning arguing sice the unfortunate had already been done . For the next night we heard no sound of the rodents . But two nights after , when we slept sound , the matress on which my freind had slept were torn like anything . The plastic made rice and pulse cases were devasted .And for me the morning was full of mystery as to why all those were done while for three long months the rodents had remained so friendly ?
When I told the story , many of my friends and acquiaintances blamed me for killing the rodents . According to them until one kills rodents the worst rodents would do was to use the house as theirown playground .
While I did not touch them due to my attachmet with them i never subscribed to the opinion that rodents take revenge only .It seemd to me a superstition . But now I was puzzled .
Your opinion and somilar experience may lead to a interesting discussion.
