Wedding Locations: To Be Married In A Church Or Not

This goes out to all of you who have gone through the terrors of planning a wedding. Did you get married in a church or elsewhere? My fiance and I are planning our wedding and while we wanted to be married in a Catholic church we are finding it is quite a hassle so we're not sure if that's what we want now or not. If you have any similiar stories I would love to hear them....

My wife and I got married in the county courthouse. Both because it was free and because all the churches wanted too many requirements, ranging from a large financial donation to us not living together for a year (something that wouldn't be very practical).

our wedding - u like it?!
Me and my husband got married in a huge park.... with grass and trees and in a nice summer day... We had 2 priests with us who kept the ceremony.. it was exactly how we wanted!! Excellent! i think it is not really important to be in church as far as you are in front of God .. and He is all over!!! Here are some pictures! maybe it will help you! And... a lot of happiness to you!!

My wife and I got married in the chapel of the college that we went to. It was a beautiful place, but required us to change the date of our wedding (we had originally wanted to get married on alumni weekend, when the chapel wasn't available) and reserve the space a year in advance. We also didn't get the time slot that we wanted because two other people were in line ahead of me even though I arrived for reservations at 7AM and they didn't open until 8 AM. Then, it seemed that on the day of the wedding everything was rushed because they schedule weddings in two-hour blocks, including time for guests to arrive, setup, etc. This also meant that we had a whole additional place to reserve for the reception. When you add in the planning for rehearsal dinner, bridesmaid's breakfast, etc etc, it can really get overwhelming. Having been to many of our friends' weddings since ours, it seems like an outdoor wedding with a nice reception area (covered in case of bad weather) is just as nice for both the couple getting married and the guests. Of course, what they never really tell you is that the wedding is not for you, but for your parents - if your mom has her heart set on a church wedding, you should plan on doing that or hearing about it for the rest of your life!
