Have you worked for a Collections Agency? If so, was your company fair to both parties involved? Who did you usually side with: the company or the consumer?

I worked in collections for an actual loan company, basically we tried to collect before we sent it to collection agencies. Most people were decent, but it was difficult. There are a lot of people who will lie to you and attempt to get out of paying the money back. I even once had a person ask me why they should pay the loan back, and when I started to explain that they signed a contract agreeing to pay it back and that they understood it was a loan and therefore they were liable for it they laughed and said they needed something better. I was tempted to explain that they could file a personal lawsuit against the person but the person just wasn't willing to cooperate so there was no point. I just continued to call and bother them.

I worked with the collection agency, it's not about fair to which party that really matter, It's about works and monies. And if you ask me, definitly I will be by my company side. It's true, sometimes, it is not the consumer fault that something happened. But it's your salary that is at stake here.

No, I never have. However I have lots of "experiences" because my friends and some people my friends' friends work in collection agencies in my city. From what they told me they get paid hourly (not by comission). I've heard lots of people say that collection agencies pay only by comission but obviously that's not the full truth. Plus I'm on forum that work with people's credit and that discuss being sued by collection agencies and creditors. I'm the type of person that if it's a bill that I made it should be paid. From what I see some companies (debt buyers) buy old debts from various companies. I understand about old debts like five to ten years old...like who wants to buy something so old? However it's my point of view that if you made the bill it should be paid off. Of course, not everyone agrees with me & I don't try to be all "bill" crazy on those forums. As for if collection agencies are fair...from what my friend & friend's friends tell me what they have to do...it sounds like they are pretty fair. They don't try to arguee with the people & if the customer is disputing they'll tell them to mail in dispute letter. From what I heard I think the collection agencies that are on comission (please correct me if I'm wrong) try to push harder cos the more money they collect from the consumers the bigger their paycheck is. However if the workers are hourly then they are less likely to keep arguing and arguing. It just makes sense, right? I think some creditors put customers in collection for bogus charges & really the collection agencies don't know until the consumer lets them know that they are disputing. However I think some people dispute charges when they should know (or should have know) about the fees that are applied in their contract (like early termination fees, etc). Cheers! Pablo
