at what age should babies drink milk from a bottle? |
| |
| my 4-year old's still drinking hers from her baby bottle. tried to get her to drink from a glass but she finished only half a glass whereas if she drinks from the bottle, she can finish up to 3 bottles at a time. so i figured, for as long as she drinks her milk, it doesn't matter how anymore. what do you think? | | cute baby.... | | | | |

| | Well I was brought up that as soon as they can sit up it is time for a cup. With mine as soon as they turned one I walked them to the trash can and let them throw it away and say "bye bye" I feel that the longer that you wait the more dependent the child grows. We as parents have to set the guidelines not the children. The child will drink from a bottle for as long as you allow it. 4 yes it is time to let the bottle go. | | | | | | |

| | A child should be off the bottle no later then 18 months my children were off before 1 years of age or at 1 years of age. Most people believe that nothing will happen to their babies teeth ,but drinking a bottle at this age will ruin her teeth they will turn brown and rot out seen it yesterday at my childs school pretty little girl smiled and teeth were half gone and rotten. I know this because my daughter is a dental assistant she see a lot of cases | | | | | | |

| | I think 4 years old is too old for a bottle. And kids really should be drinking that much milk anyway. Last I heard they recommend like 1 glass a day. My kids only drink milk with their cereal in the morning. They all stopped taking bottles when they stopped taking formula at 12 month old. They never had anything but formula in their bottles. Milk, juice and water belonged in the cups. They just now stopped using sippy cups (they are 6, 5 and 4) and drink from small cups now. Kids don't need milk and juice. They should only be getting 1 (6-8oz) glass a day at the most. I think for your daughter it is more of a crutch now. She is used to it but it is unhealthy. She is old enough to tell her that she doesn't need it and just take it away and give her a sippy cup or regular cup. She may cry but she will get over it. | | | | | | |

| | I am a mother of two and one of my daughters bithday presents was a sippy cup. She started off slow and cried a little but now that's all she wants! My son is 7 mths old and will also receive a sippy cup when he turns one. (dont worry that's not their only birthday presents). Children need to be taken off the bottle because the soft nipple starts ruining their teeth (according to the dentist). Both of my nieces used bottles until they were three or four and both of them have had to have surgery on their front teeth. I would hate for your baby to have to go through that. Try your hardest, it's not easy but she'll get used to it. Good luck. :) | | | | | | |

| | Why wait until they are one to introduce a sippy cup? 7 months old is the perfect time to start to use a cup. Our kids each got a cup when they were about 5 months old. My son was an expert at it before he turned 5 months. My youngest is 8 months and has had a sippy cup since she was 5 months and drinks very well from it (mostly water, but occasionally juice). We never had any crying when we took away the last bottle because they were already used to drinking from a sippy cup. By the time they turned 1 they were getting 1 bottle in the evening and eating during the day with a cup of water never far from where ever they were playing. I know with my oldest she didn't drink from her cup right away (at 5 months) but I would hold it up to her mouth often so she got the idea. Eventually she started sucking on it and realized it had something in there. It didn't take long for her to want the cup during the day. | | | |

| | I must say I am amazed that you asked this question. In my world, I would have already heard plenty of opinions by now to be sick of the subject. You must be surrounded by lovely people who always mind their own business, lol. Child care and rearing is usually one thing people offer unsolictited advice on and way too freely. Personally, I would be shocked to see a normal, healthy 4 yo using a bottle. If you send your kids to school still using a bottle, that info might want to be kept top secret. I am glad your kids teeth are ok. In my case, I breastfed and my first two kids teeth were fine from that. The third child's front teeth turned brown shortly after coming in. She had surgery to fix her teeth so she wouldn't be afraid to smile. Just saying that because you can't go on what happened with the first two. At least not in my case. Best wishes! | | | | | | |

| | you must also understand that kids in our country usually get off the bottle late already. it's a normal occurence to see 4, 5 yr-olds in church, toting along their bottles. and it's perfectly ok with everyone. from what my mom told me, i wasn't drinking milk at all, anymore at the age of 1 coz i always throw up when given milk. but i have the most crooked teeth in the family even with that fact. so, it's not really a guarantee, what everyone is saying, that weaning them off the bottle ensures perfect teeth. tnx, though, for the contribution. | | | |

| | people are nuts to make there kids drink from a sippy cup at 12 months. My son is 6 months and he holds the sippy cup and will maybe drink an oz. from it. But I'm not making him give up his bottle!!! | | | |

| | she doesn't need to drink that much milk and staying on a bottle that long is detrimental to her teeth. She should've been off the bottle by the latest at two. Pediatricians recommend getting them off by 1 year of age. | | | | | | |
