band member to solo artist

who do you think have been the best solo artists who started off as band members? who do you think would have been better off staying in a band? i think a lot of artists who leave bands to start a solo career don't really find much success, but justin timberlake is probably one of the most successful. however, i prefer gwen stefani and fergie as band members as opposed to solo artists.

Shirley Mansen of Garbage is releasing a solo record as well. I think it is interesting to hear a different sound from the lead singer of a band.

Justin Timberlake - Justin Timberlake
I wouldn't really call N'SYNC a band but I think Justin Timberlake. He's doing much better with out them and creates a whole lot better music. I didn't like N'SYNC but I've bought both Justins albums after hearing a few songs. His last is the best though. I love Gwen but I love No Doubt just as much. Plus they're suppose to do another album after her tour and I can't wait for it.

haha well i guess it depends on what you consider n'sync. i guess i should have said band/group, cause i guess they were more of a group than a band.

I also think Justin Timberlake although I loved him when he was in *NSYNC he has definitely created his own unique style and I love it.
