It depends on destination and it depends on one's planning. Because this country is highly populated and because of family connections and business, people travel from end to end quite frequently and trains are supposed to be comfortable compared to bus and planes are prohibitively exhorbitant. Therefore, one could see a sea of people at railway stations and you are driven to crazy. In fact any part of the world, the city stations are always crowded. It is more in India, due to thick population. I happen to take my wife and in-laws to Delhi-Haradwar-Delhi-Bangalore. I booked the entire tickets at Bangalore by giving proper dates which I never changed it and stuck to it. Nowwhere we had any problem with regard to journey. Only when we go late to the station, the train would have gone and it is expensive to go by taxi.

train journey is very fun when u travel with friends... i had a very joy when i had been to b'lore with friends.. but it would be boresome to regular traveller and in local trains it must be tough enough... but most of them enjoy train journey

Indian trains can be tough for anyone who is used to trains in the west. Trains can be often unclean, dark and very uncomfortable. But the railways is making an effort to improve it in the near future...

I dont think it is tough. The main transporatation of Mumbaities is train. You ask the question to them..they will definetly say no and they love to travel in train than any other. Now a days the indian railways has done lot of passenger friendly measures to make the travel as the happy.definetly it is enjoyable and i too travelled quite a long distance in trains i dont feel it is difficult.
