I would like to plant my garden with vegetables and fruit trees / plants.
I live in the north-east and don't have a greenhouse. What would be a successful crop for a beginner to grow?
I have a good idea of what will grow and what won't, but I'd love some tips on what will be best to grow.
Turnip? Potatoes? Carrots? Cabbages?

Hi hun. I'm in the Midlands so a similar climate. I have had some success with potatoes, onions and carrots, plus I grew beetroot, spring onions and lettuce last summer quite well. I also had some tomatoes in pots on the patio in the sun and they produced a good crop for us. If you have a space that is sheltered, how about runner beans

Thanks for this luv. I've started a few seedlings now in containers and they're not doing too badly.
I found yesterday that my lettuces are under aphid attack. They also seem 'floppy' but I think that's from being in the greenhouse thingy. Do you think they'll straighten up from being outside?
I've also sown peas, carrots, cucumbers, strawberries, spring onions, and chilli peppers.
I'm not sure how well carrots will do in a tub, but I don't have any space to plant in the ground until I landscape the mess that is my garden!

You can get a good general purpose spray to deal with the aphids, hun. It might still be a little bit too cold for the lettuce, keep an eye on it but it should straighten up ok soon. Many years ago I grew carrots in a couple of old buckets, they seemed to go very well and I managed to grow some very long carrots that way :-) Good luck, let's hope the weather improves soon and the growing gets under way

I used buckets and had 8 in each bucket, round the outside and a second row inside. I've not had much cussess with cucumbers, lucky you :-)

THE WORD CROP MEAN-: A crop is any plant that is grown in significant quantities to be harvested as food, livestock fodder, or for another economic purpose. This category includes crop species as well as agricultural techniques related to cropping..

I like green vegetable and its good for health as you describes the benefits and vitamins of of the green vegetable thats why i prefer green vegetable. You need to study nutrition if you haven't already and make sure the child is getting all the nutrients he needs from the foods you feed him. My son has been a vegetarian for a number of years now, and he's healthier than ever before.
