Would you ever give a puppy or kitten (or other small animal) to someone for Christmas. It is quite sad that everyone loves a baby animal but then when they grow a little don't want them anymore. Our local SPCA has printed an article in the local newspaper pleading with people not to give animals as gifts. Do you agree with them?

I agree. Animal is not a toy. You take it and you keep it and you take care of it. People are not responsible, many animals end up in shelter and eventually are kill.

I am going to get my kids a puppy for christmas but I realize that it will be me who cares for this dog..We lost our old dog in May and we have a big void that I think a new baby will fill for us.. As far as animals as gift generally I would say no.. unless as I am doing you are getting a family pet that you will care for its whole life.. I had my last dog twelve years I adopted from the pound when he was three months old and he was the one of the best dogs you could have asked for..
I personally think pet stores should shut down selling of all babies around christmas just too tempting to get a pet before you have thoroughly thought through your descision.
