What are some fun New Years Eve party themes where the guests can dress up nicely?

Maybe do a time period theme like in the day of flappers and big bands. You could also do a color theme where everyone comes dressed in certain colors. How about a costume party where everyone dresses up as a favorite movie or book character or as their favorite celebrity?
