I think the most important feature of an audio player is one that supports bookmarks and has a way of viewing the book and bookmark list.
Not all audio book services work on all players.
If you want to go with Audible.com, they work on iPod, many Creative Zen players (but not all), PalmOS PDAs including Treo.

I know this is not really an answer but do not buy an ipod!! they are horrible, the only reason people think they are good is that they have a lot more advertising, they dont have more memory or anything else, there are so many other things out there that are cheaper bigger(in memory) and just better

I pod brake a lot aswell. i got a 40 gig 3rd gen ipod and it broke within a month (A malfunction not my doing) so i send it in (takes 2 weeks for them to send you the box then 2 weeks for you to put the ipod into the box and get it to them 4 weeks for them to fix it and 2 weeks back) i get a new one! yay happy me! then it brakes again in another 2 months, so i send it in again, (this time it costs 20$ each way= 60$) get it back and.... it brakes... all of these where mear malfunctions and not my fault the said so them selfs.
